America's "Brain-Dead" Politics - Fareed...

Author Fareed Zakaria criticizes American political culture for ignoring global issues, and for focusing on short-term political benefits at the expense of long-term prosperity. The rise of other nations need not mean a decline of the U.S., says Zakaria. He foresees a future where the U.S. no longer dominates the global economy, geopolitics and culture, and it needn't be seen as a negative development, he believes; our nation needs to learn to understand other nations and find a way to thrive in this rapidly shifting dynamic.

What an ironic speech. Zakaria describes what the rest of the world used to know about free trade and globalization: that it was a made in America way for multinationals to rape and plunder countries. That`s still true. They buy the locals off with TV`s, walkmans, bluejeans, sneakers, and Macdonalds. It glitters, and they won`t learn enough to object for a few more decades, when it will be far too late to get back what they lost.

Then, Zakaria goes on to explain that the US won, and the world has now embraced "free trade". Well isn`t that just lovely. Unfortunately, we are beginning to understand how EVIL it is, so we think lowly of it. And suprise suprise, we don`t want the multinationals to rape and plunder us too. We don`t want our own free trade. We don`t want be globalized. We have met the enemy, and it is us.

We didn`t "forget to globalize" ourselves, we woke up.

It`s ironic that he says america has "forgotten to globalise itself" when of course he means that politics has failed to globalise itself, leaving an immense global power vaccum for anyone with the capital to exploit it.
