Not meaning to be rude and I`m by no means an expert, but karate has never seemed practical to me especially while studying it, and this just seemed like dancing.

In a real fight with a real martial artist, I doubt any of this would be used ... or they could try, then they`d end up on the floor like most MMA and UFC fights.

^Agreed. It`s always fun watching someone like Fedor Emelianenko or Liddell beat down any "art" form with fists or submissions. They`ve got poor form, can`t throw a good kick, but still manage to put up a good show. There is no one in the UFC or Pride that I know of that uses one pure form of fighting and make it to the end, BUT, everyone uses ju jutsu/grappling in there. EVERYONE. You can`t survive on the ground without it.

Other than that, the announcer in the video just bullshit his way through the performance. Not sure what he meant by "you could not get a better answer to any questions you may have." It was a choreographed fight, what do you learn from it?

Yes the MMA takes different kinds of martial arts and there is a ground aspect to it. As far as fighters who have form and use some of the more unorthodox methods of fighting which is actually orthodox martial arts, check out lyoto machida. He is quite the karate practitioner; of course he also has a ground game. Another excellent striker with a Kung Fu background: Cung Le. For grappling arts: Soukoudjou or Karo Parisian, they have Judo backgrounds and I love watching them execute a well timed throw. It`s much nicer than the dirty boxing or catch wrestling.

And look no further than Bruce Lee himself when talking about forms and styles. He was asked in an interview (i`m sure its up on spiked somewhere) what you must do if you`re in a full on fight. "Then baby, you better train all of your body." This type of stuff is not meant for MMA its meant to showcase the beauty and power of karate. Don`t confuse the two.

well katas in martial arts is a form of dancing your showing off MOST of them is not going to be used in real life some of the moves they use can like a side kick to your neck i dont care who the fuck you are thats going to fuck up your year. In kattas its kick then punch then punch when you doing the sheet moves on pepole 3 to 4 hits with in 1sec not giveing the time to do anything. In UFC you cant take out someones nee or leg bone with a kick know why?? because we all know whats going to happen i dont need to be kicked in the neck or nee to know whats going to happen or if its going to work. in karate you train to take them down fast and not fuck around well my style is like that im done.

That said, i disagree with you. This type of skill shown here...it`s one of those things, when you see it happen in a real situation right in front of you, you`ll change your mind. Of course in a real situation, this last 5 seconds cause the attacker won`t be standing up or will be long gone. Unless he has a gun and is at range...damn noob :P
