Little known is the fact that while there are several Chinese languages (Mandarin and Cantonese among them) all of them use the same writing system; much in the same way that people who speak different languages can read the same numbers, people who speak different Chinese languages can read the same subtitles. That way, a film in Cantonese (which I believe is the language being spoken here) can be understood by those who only speak Mandarin.
