August 6th 1945. Hiroshima, Japan. The first atomic bomb was dropped by the Enola Gay - a B29 bomber. This Japanese animation looks at that day in history. There are no subtitles and the ending is abrupt, but you may find it interesting.

Japanese soldiers routinely raped and tortured civilian populations in China and Korea. Hiroshima was also a main staging area for their military. They had troops staged there for the war that day.

its sad how so many civilians were caught up in that war but who can you really blame? hitler who started the war? the japanese who sided with him? whoever thought it would be a good idea to attack the united states? the people who created the bomb or the one who ordered it dropped?

Well, while I agree that people are insane, and, as a general rule, no damn good, I don`t see much of a difference between us extinguishing ourselves with nuclear or biological madness, and getting wiped out by an asteroid or comet strike. We`ll be just as dead.
The world has seen many mass extinctions before, and there will be more in the 5 billion years it has left. Rest assured, people or no, the earth will go on for a very long time yet.

This is the animated adaptation from the manga Barefoot Gen, althought i`m not sure wich version is this. It`s an autobiography, beleive it or not, and the original manga author, Keiji Nakazawa, really went trought stuff like this when the bomb went off.

Later in the story, the boy comes across the `walk of the dead` - as Keiju mentionned once in some interview - people whose eyes and skin have been melted off because of the heat, but didn`t kill them, and were walking around like zombies.
