Heady stuff. After all the apocalyptic speculation about Earth`s future, it`s refreshing to hear a different perspective. I`m glad to know that the most respected scientists question the good in pursuing every possible discovery. I didn`t know that scientists have been questioning things like, "which doors to leave shut," and the consequences of discoveries since the end of Einstein`s life. That`s a relief b/c Hollywood makes me believe that all great scientists are consumed with being the first to make a discovery and gain peer recognition to the point of having no consideration of the application of those discoveries by commercial forces.

String theory - I always think of Jet Li`s "The One." Are there any other storylines that bastardize or otherwise toy with string theory in motion pictures? I think it`s neat.

*sigh* Well, I live in the South, so I`m required by law to write this now: "WITCH! He`s a WITCH! BURN HIM!"

This is by far my favorite TED talk this man is great. His diagram on the expanding universe and the way galaxies are moving together blew my mind. The first time I watched it I was stoned so naturally I was shaken to my very moral roots. But to really gain a solid understanding of his message I watched several more times (sober). Most of his arguments I had some notion of already and I believe in those principals, but his theory of the link between the very large and the very small is a new one for me. May humanity forever evolve.

Every time I look upon the stars at night I wish I could just fly up and explore. And every time I listen to a TED talk or something else that explains a wild and interesting theory it just wants me to do it even more. Dammit, I hate being stuck down here.

I still think man will become one with machine. Then one day take the full step, and no longer be organic. It`s a fear I have when I think of what may come of us. Maybe I just watched too much animation from Japan. Let`s hope so. Keep the TED coming!

Pharsical, unless I`m mistaken, I`m pretty sure that most witch trials were in the northeast, not the south.

^ This guy understands me. And while we`re at it, there is no law requiring the violent suppression of science in the South (not yet, anyways). So feel free to obliterate me on that salient point, where you`d at least have a historical argument to nitpick.

"Pharsical, unless I`m mistaken, I`m pretty sure that most witch trials were in the northeast, not the south."

If I was referencing the American witch trials I would have had to shout, "Bring him to trial, and acquit, imprison, or hang!" Which isn`t nearly as dramatic as referencing Europe`s witch hunts of yore. We didn`t burn our witches here in the states (as a rule of thumb).

^Plus men were warlocks, not witches. :P

Anywho, good talk. I`m sure the biosphere will stabilize, but I dunno if it`ll happen before or after our population is drastically changed.
