I live in Weston-Super-Mare in the UK and we have around 50 decent earthquakes every week, we are just so used to them now that nobody even takes any notice when a building falls down, to be honest they can be a pain in ass, one time i was about to get on a bus when it got swallowed up into a deep crevice that opened up in the middle of the road, luckily there was a Taxi rank just down the road, a Taxi costs a lot more than the bus but i did get to the car-boot sale on time!!!!!!!!!!!

I`m living about 20km from the epicenter of the Taiwan earthquake, nicknamed 9/21. There`s a museum dedicated to it nearby, which has some quite amazing pictures. Two which stand out are a picture of a waterfall created when the ground rose up about 15ft along the fault line, and the other of rows of tea trees. Very cool to see all the uniform rows going in order, and then all taking the same `left, right` turn where the ground shifted. Cool museum, crazy earthquake.

ive lived in southern california all my life. I`ve also see some shit being 21 and if i had to choose, id pick earthquakes over anything. U can build a house to withstand a couple shakes.. but you cant build one to take on a tornado, flood, hurracane, tsunami. To me earthquakes are the least bit dangerouse next to wind storms. The buulding in downtown la have withstood beatings..

^ fuck that....earthquakes and hurricanes cause more damage to more people over a wider area than do other disasters

also, earthquakes are far less predictable than a hurricane or a tornado or forest fires or snowfall or just about anything else

the highest death count in America from a earthquake was in San Fran in 1906-3000 the highest death rate for a tornado was 519 for the ENTIRE COUNTRY FOR AN ENTIRE YEAR (1953)

EDIT to add- as a matter of fact the recent earthquake in China is estimated to have killed at least 50K and the Tsunami in Asia in 2004 killed 225,000 people

I think because with tornado`s you can see where they are, unlike earthquakes where you have to "feel" them..
