Here`s the difference, the sound wave is created by the electromagnet "bumping" up and down at varying frequencies, which creates the pressure waves (sound). Without that effect, no sound can be produced. This is a highly simplified summary, but it lets you know why this is impossible. No vibration equals no sound.

(and no, simply running a current through a penny will not cause it to magically jump up and down at a high frequency)

this is just a really rough idea of how a speaker works...

Tada is right... the electric current passing through the penny will create the electromagnet... if u ever cut a penny in half before... ther are two layers in the penny... a copper coating and some other metal im not sure of(probably aluminum)thats in the middle... a classic example of an electromagnet is a piece of copper wire wrapped around a nail a couple of times...so the penny is kinda like that... but is its realli crappy electromagnet

thers 3 basic parts to a speaker:
an electromagnet (in this case i think is the penny)
a permanent magnetic
a paper or cloth like material that will vibrate

as soon as a current passes through the electromagnet... it creates a magnetic field (just like a normal magnet)... depending on the amount of current passing through... the electromagnet will create a stronger or weaker magnetic field... the stereo plug will provide the different amounts of current passing through...

now... with the varying current the stereo provides... the strength of the electromagnet will be coordinated by this varying current....

more current = stronger magnetic field
changing the current = changing the strength of magnetic field

now the use of the permanent magnet.... this magnet`s magnetic field will stay the same and not change...the vibration that PernStar is talking aboutcomes from the electromagnet and the permanent magnet (note: wen u put two magnets together... they will either repel or attract) wen thers a current passing through the electromagnet...the changing current in the electromagnet will cause the a stronger or weaker vibration between it and the permanent magnet(due to the changing strength of magnetic field of the electromagnet that is causing stronger attraction or stronger repelling force)... thus...the attraction and repelling force will create the vibration...

and that paper or membrane is just making the vibration bigger...

the one thing that makes me skeptical about this "1 buck speaker"... is that ther isnt a permanent magnet to help "bump" up the elctromagnet to cause the vibration...

if im wrong sumwhere ... please dunt start ranting... just correct me lol

look PHINKS, dont be naive, this doesn`t work,

he just has alternating current ( the sound signal) going from the right channel to the left channel because he stripped one end of a stereo cable. So nothing is going on,

the fuckin aluminum and plate are doing nothing



what REALLY SHOCKS me is that this video is a COMPLETE JOKE, but the guy has the nerve to keep a totally legit tone and attitude throughout the whole video. like he`s the most cold blooded asshole on the internet wasting some poor fool like PHINKS` time.
