A cool thing that doesn`t get brought up enough in these shows is the fact that the further away from a gravitational event, the slower time moves.

anyone feel like the dude around 2:40 was just sorta making it up as he spoke, and isn`t a physicist at all?

^Neil deGrasse Tyson? No way! He`s a genius... although he is a little abstract in this clip.

The only way we could prove time`s relativity is if we send a giant clock light years away and we look at it with a telescope and check if the time on our watch is equal as that one in the distance.

Because maybe time at my place goes slower but then my clock, my brain, and everything else goes slower too. I can`t see that on a clock.

General relativity has been proven experimentally. At least, I recall that they did mention that in `a brief history of time`, the Stephen Hawkins book.

That last statement was BS " einstein received the nobel price in 1921"

BUT IT had nothing to do with relativity ! It was for the photoelectric effect ...These bastards sorta seriously implied the wrong thing here in this video.

This is the first time this concept has actually made total sense to me. Thanks for posting it. 5/5.

@ mateohrastn7
Are you trying to say that time dilation hasn`t been observed? Then I suggest you should ignore all the gps`s out there that would fall 7 microseconds behind clocks on the ground per day if they didn`t account for the effects of Special Relativity.

But general retivity also plays a roll in the time dilation of clocks aboard gps satellites with curvature of spacetime due to the Earth`s mass at the satellites orbit less than it is at the Earth`s surface. calculating this shows that the clocks on the satellite should be ticking 45 microseconds FASTER per day than clocks on the ground

Taking in both these relativity calculations shows us that the clocks on the satellites are ticking 38 microseconds faster per day (45-7=38) and if we werent aware of thise, gps`s in cars, planes, etc would quickly become highly innacurate

Your onstar and garmen`s are all proof of the effects of Special Relativity
