This is what I like to call "Research Into The Bleedin` Obvious". It`s where we spend millions of dollars on the indepth study of why chocolate cake is eaten more than gravel cake. Why?

Sure, we can expand this and say that, funnily enough, gravel has almost zero nutritional value and will rip the crap (literally) out of your digestive tract.

It`s a lot like fat chicks - they may smother us or our offspring in their sleep accidentally, they may make us commit suicide because they constantly act like we give a shit what they think, or they may rip the crap out of your digestive track (fat chicks are usually, shall we say, "angrier" than other women).

Or we can just cut to the chase and say this - men like women with a decent sized rack, good hips, a spankable bum, and a slim waist. It ain`t that fuckin` hard is it?

Grade 9 science right there. Men subconciously are looking for baby makers while women generally find large muscles attractive because they desire safety/protection. It`s unfortunate that we label this as being shallow..

"Oh you just like curvy women with big boobs!" Well of course, all the better to bare child with my dear! And we didn`t chose to be (edit) naturally <.<.. configured to desire that!

It`s also unfortunate that the media glamorizes women who are WAY to thin, so all women tend to think that`s what we want. Though they have been aiming that in a different direction over the last few years so that`s good.

the clip didn`t say women with the feature are better child bearers, it said that they are able to find mates easier, and earlier, which means fewer chances of defects or miscarriages.

also the only variable tested was hips/waist differences. inferences from this survey can only be about this one feature, and cannot compare this feature with others, or conclude how important this feature is

i agree that the thin look is retarded. who wants to marry someone who looks like they`re impoverished/starving or sickly?

Yeah, as others have mentioned this is pretty basic. What`s more interesting is the stuff that`s not so obvious or that is obvious but no one wants to admit.

Like the fact that much of what men *think* women find attractive is actually what men find attractive in each other. Yes, those muscles Aids_Sauce mentioned are usually somewhere in the top-10 list for women, but usually behind things like nice teeth, hair and eyes (which are also good indicators of health and fitness). But for men who admit that other men are attractive, their favourite things are muscles and asses!

Or the findings that Germaine Greer (among others) mentions having to do with how most people naturally find young adolescents attractive. This also makes obvious biological sense; we find potential partners attractive at a time when they are approaching or have just arrived at sexual maturity. What better time to snag them (or let them snag you!). Do we really need to be reminded that most societies throughout history married off their young at a fairly early age, to ensure a nice, long period of baby-making starting as soon as possible.

Well, in light of the stupid controversy in Australia over the Bill Henson photos, perhaps some history, science and common sense are in order.

And when we take Kinsey`s findings into account, or that of Ford & Beech proving the prevalence of homosexuality and bisexuality in fully half of any given population (and 100% of some societies!), we are confronted with the reality that sex is not just for reproduction. Sex is social. It`s about bonding with others, not just for propagating, but for fun, reassurance, support, pleasure, and numerous other benefits that cross gendered lines. Indeed, modern, western, industrialised society is "abnormal" for obsessing on heterosexual sex-for-reproduction and ignoring the myriad other roles sex plays in most other societies, past and present, including animal societies like our relatives the Bonobos.

Ultimately, most people have to admit that, while everyone has their favourites, most people aren`t too picky. A little sluttiness is adaptively advantageous, for all sorts of social and biological reasons!
