Well based on what the surface looks like as it is. You can see where rivers might have been. Im sure it will ba a breakthrough in expanding humanity, but i dont think it will be huge seeing as its only a "next door planet"

I for one keep my fingers tightly crossed, imagine they find some sorta evidence of life of previous life.

Swift kick in the balls for creationism.

I really liked the vid, but the woman`s awkwardness and fakeness was really annoying.

do we really need to spend billions in maned missions to mars? Just like the limitless budget nasa had when it landed on the moon in 69. it dented the economy at the time just to be the first on the moon

If we believed that Delt_osvp, we would all be still living in caves.
Cost to much for Spain to send out Columbus to find the Americas? For England to send out Cook to find East coast of Australia? To fund Darwin to sail on The Beagle on his 5 year mission around the world and so on...

^ delt...the entire Phoenix Lander mission cost 1/2 billion. For a little perspective that`s a day and a half of funding for the Iraq War. It`s just 1/100th of the *increase* in the Medicare budget a couple of years ago...you know, the bill that handed out billions in corporate welfare to pharmacuetical companies.

seems to me the next big space race is putting a base on the moon. the states, russia, china, india and japan all have projected dates ranging from 2020-2030. Mars will be after the moon. These are more scouting missions, I sure hope they find signs of life. How mind blowing would it be if we found mars was something like earth eons ago.

^ Actually, the last three landings by NASA were incredibly successful. The Mars Polar Lander, launched by the European Space Agency, crash-landed some four years ago. You may be thinking of the failed mission way back in 1993...that`s the one they made the boneheaded metric conversion error and missed the planet.

This was the 6th successful landing on Mars by the USA...and the two Martian rovers are still working, more than FOUR YEARS after their planned three-month mission!!

The probe costs $600,000 to launch to Mars.

The Iraq War costs over 20 bil. dollars = $2,000,000,000.

Take some time to think about it.
