Mozart Requiem Mass in D Minor VI - Conf...

John Eliot Gardiner conducts the English Baroque Soloists and the Monteverdi Choir. This performance was filmed at the Palau de la Musica Catalana, Barcelona in Dec. 1991.
A Requiem Mass in the Roman Catholic tradition is a service designed to pray for the souls of the departed. The parts of the liturgy that are meant to be sung are what constitute all Requiem Mass compositions, including Mozart`s.
The structure is as follows: 1. Introit 2. Kyrie 3. Sequence: a. Dies irae b. Tuba mirum c. Rex tremendae d. Recordare e. Confutatis f. Lacrimosa 4. Offertory: a. Domine Jesu Christe b. Hostias 5. Sanctus 6. Benedictus 7. Agnus Dei 8. Lux Aeterna
Mozart died before finishing the Requiem Mass, and his wife Constanze gave the task of finishing the work to a pupil of Mozart`s named Süssmayr. From the Sanctus onward, the Requiem is the creation of Süssmayr, though he did use portions of the Introit and Kyrie for the Lux Aeterna.
Despite, or maybe partially because of, the controversy surrounding this Requiem Mass, it is widely regarded as Mozart`s greatest masterpiece.

Yeah this piece is crazy. There`s a rumor that an unknown man came and commissioned this piece, but as Mozart was writing it, and became more ill, he realized it was for himself.

The problem with classical music is that theres too much shit, we tend to forget the true masterpieces.

WHAT?! the problem with classical music is that there IS no problem with it. Sure some pieces may not be as deep or intricate or expressive as others, but the "shit" I`m guessing you`re referring to shows the growth and development of each composer. Many reviewers say that Chopin`s early works sucked ass (which by the way, is nonsense, as his first sonata is beautiful), it`s just that it`s not the signature work for which he became known. It`s not shit, it`s different. Perhaps the problem is that it`s the music industry today is spewing so much shit around. the talentless fucks you see on TV are glamourised for being artists when they`re nothing compared to some masters who have lived in the past (and I`m not just talking classical).

/end rant

the modern classical...lol excuse the oxymoron...but the 20th century composers, and the 21st century bullshit...truly IS shit to the ears of someone trained in the beauties of the romantic and baroque. personally i accept all forms of classical composers and can tolerate even the most outlandish of modern composers...and if i may correct...Lux Aeterna is a theme heavy "encore," if you will, of the mass and the main theme of the Requiem is laid out in the introit and kyrie...also the themes laid in I+K are modulated and played upon in the rest of the mass...

Wow, what a nice piece of music. I can`t even imagine being able to write a huge song like that in my lifetime. (It would help if I had any skills in creating music, ha ah!)

what i mean by the amount of shit in classical music, is that the history of classical music includes centuries of composers, in wich many are bullshit and just plain boring, but a selct few like mozart bach, chopin, listz, shubert, and other really composed masterpieces

There`s classical music, then there is noise for everything else. Classical music is so far above the other types, once people accept it, they never go back.
