I used to want to be a prison guard until I volunteered in a pound. I realized, if I was a human and somone wouldn`t let me out of a cage. If I ever had the chance I`d kill them for taking my freedom.

This is how they prevent the revolution. Put in jail all the people for whom the system really doesn`t work. These are the same people who have nothing to lose and everything to gain by some real change that might give them a chance. Notice too that the biggest growth sector in law is against people who want change in government power.

And BTW, I`m talking about the 90% who are basically decent folks busted for symptoms of desperation, poverty, or drugs, not the 10% who are psychotic / violent. If you think I`m off the mark, and it should be 50% psychos, then I think you are underestimating what a hell like jail does to otherwise good people.

if pivately owned prisons increase then so does there need for prisoner.

In the end it will be more benefical to keep prison numbers high rather than reduce them.

American prison system is awesome.

Awesomely bad. Great example of how prisons shouldn`t work: With people Wanting to keep more people in jail. If you run a hotel, you want people to stay as long as possible. If you run a jail, you just fuck the system, lobby some with politicians to get the spicy 3-stikes-you`re-out-laws in place, don`t rehabilitate and be assured of plenty of `guest` for years.

Really, it`s a good documentary, but the truth is this is a Huge problem. Probably a million people more are in jail then should. That are a lot of ruined lives.

Interesting, I actually lectured one class regarding this matter.
One thing that came up in mind was the extending abyss that separates the rich and poor. The middle class no longer exists. With establishment of more prisons causes the need for more prisoners. Not only will laws become stricter, but the sentencing will be maximized. With non-violent criminals filling up prisons with longer sentences, we see a slow shift toward the degradation of the judicial systems. Our economy will be centralized around the government`s dealings, such as the establishment of private prison. This tax money supports government`s actions, rather than supporting the people`s needs.
We, as a nation, must look to our past, where the founding fathers wanted the government work for the people, not the other way around.

This is a short comment, however, I hope people can think about America`s shift from a "people nation" to a "government nation"

You can disagree with me, which I encourage, however, think about how these prisons will incarcerate many Americans who have done very non-violent crimes that do not undermine American society. Sending a violent murderer to prison is acceptable, in order to protect citizens... but how about a person who steals food from a grocery store (unviolently).

^ " don`t do the crime, don`t do the time! "

translated: obey, and we might spare you. Nice attitude.

Sometimes, the laws are wrong, the courts are unjust, and the jailer is a real filthy screw. Good people get shafted, and sometimes shanked. It`s nice for people to walk the straight and narrow, but that`s a fine line these days, headed razor, and people fall off it for fair human reasons. Why should we lay a pit of spikes to catch them? We can do better.

Hearing this kind of stuff just sickens me. To think that any scumbag corporate piece of garbage can just spend a bunch of money to change state laws to further exploit the local government and people for profits is appalling.

I don`t see how these assholes can sleep at night knowing they put people (thats right they are still PEOPLE, not just numbers on a paper that make you money) behind bars for longer times to further their predicament, solely for the purpose of increasing their profit.

I`m not saying there aren`t people in prison that deserve to be there, but lower class people sitting behind bars because they happened to own a gun and decided to sell some weed to support themselves (because your current government has left you with little choice in the job market) ending up in prison for armed trafficking (and whatever else the cop having a bad day decided to throw on there) is just re-fucking-diculous.

Really though, how does taking money from people who don`t have it in the first place make things better? Stop trying to profit off of other people suffering you mindless money-grubbing pricks.
