awesome find:)

very well put prof. Hawkings, 5/5.

Loved how he had the simpsons figurine of himself on his desk (that was a nice touch).

you can just see how he gets such a kick out of thinking about this stuff by the look on his face.

Man, id love to sit and have a conversation with him. It`d be pretty much one sided, but i think id learn more from him in one conversation that all of my public school years combined.

From nothing? Are you fucking kidding me? The bubbles came from boiling water ... not nothing, so that example didn`t help at all.

It surprises me that even the so-called `greatest` minds of our time still end up using a God answer.

That wasn`t science at all, that was a guess ignorant of the principle that something cannot come from nothing. That`s like saying matter can be created and destroyed. It can be changed.

Actually Zaiyar, and this doesn`t have to do with "God" at all, some would argue that Something can come from Nothing.. If you`re not completely sure what I mean pick up some literature on.. well just that concept in itself.

No offense or anything but perhaps this is just beyond your comprehension of the topic at hand. Though I do get what you`re saying, I simply wouldn`t discredit Dr. Hawking champ ;)

Great mind and a lot of great people put together.. but it disturbed me that they are forming great `answer` from unproven theory.

the repelling matters that expanded the Universe.. - to date, they have not found any such matter.

Universe was found out of nothing - a very simplified `I don`t know so it just happened` kinda answer..

As for the microwave they detected and thus, label it as the Big bang wave - another `We don`t know but we will label this as the big bang wave` without any proof or comparison.

Sorry, in Science, until something is proven WITHOUT a doubt - it`s still a theory.. and nothing more.

Aids_Sauce, Hawking has been proven wrong a fair few times from what I`ve seen here and there, and he should not be respected as more-right-than-thou simply because of his IQ.

Perhaps it is out of my comprehension, but it`s a very possible constant that matter cannot be created nor destroyed and definitely not arise from nothing, so I`d say I have this one over Mr Hawking, despite his probable brilliance in most areas over me.

I agree with Puppie on this one. This is not good science. He`s getting away with putting theories out there as pretty much `fact` without proving it beyond doubt. Guess work, and not very good guess work at that.

^ I hate to say it but fair enough! Sorry for insulting you`re intelligence. I suppose I take what he says without a grain of salt just because it appears valid. But when it does come down to it, you`re completely correct.. He`s decided he`s right about everything and no one can argue it.
My bad dude, you got me on this one!

All good, just glad to see some respect even in disagreement and also that now you won`t take someone`s word as fact just because of their apparent rank (which like Mr Hawking`s answer to the beginning of the universe is also an incorrect religious value COUGHPOPECOUGH).

And this remains the big question, we know there was a big bang but we dont know what triggered it. The explanation with the steam is pathetic because to create steam you need energy and some water like substance, so where did that came from?

Its like multiplying infinity with infinity (I know this might be a harsh comparison but its the only thing that comes close to it.). I think its just beyond our capacity. If we would have the answer it would drive us insane and thats where ifinity comes in. Because Its like trying to define infinity and most people that came close to defining it just went nuts. But Im drunk so what do I know....
And yeah, Stephen Hawking has been proofed wrong many times but still he`s more intelligent than 80% of the worlds population. And this is what theoretical Physics is all about, to have a proof that either your wrong or right, and at the moment there are theories out there which are even more unbelievable than some of his theories. String Theory for example. If your interested in it just search on TED.
