From what he says I feel like the news has lead me in the wrong direction. Now why would they do something like that? (PS Gas is 3.95 where I live)

How did he put the "myth" to bed? You can`t expect to use electricity to make a fuel and expect to get more energy out of the fuel than the electricity. If he put cars with the battery or solar panel connected directly, next to cars that used hydrogen being made from them, the direct electricity cars would go much farther.

Just trying to sell you stuff.

Its gonna take 100yrs of playing with the toy-car to offset the CO2 involved in the production of the car+fuelcell+solarcell+usermanual.
Moreover it is more energy efficient to use solar-cells to charge re-chargeable batteries and then run the car, than to create Hydrogen and then run the car!!

For just putting around town, it would be well worth it. I`m sure you wouldnt be able to get very high speeds out of this idea but around town you only need maybe 35-40mph.

Now all I have=e to do is lose a little weight then I can drive that car.

I have heard of using the electrolyses process to help supplement the burning of gasoline ( not having it as a fuel source but as a sort of hybrid) to gain fuel efficiency. This idea seems plausible because engines are roughly 35% efficient. Therefore, if we could "recycle" energy that the engine is wasting anyways to help produce hydrogen, then I can see how that could improve efficiency.

Engines are not 35% efficient. They are more like 8-13% efficient depending on the weight and type of car (sedan vs SUV for example) A car made from Carbon Fiber that is aerodynamically correct would be 40% efficient.

Now, I`m not 100% on the feasibility of the hydrogen generators people are trying to sell right now to supplement your gas, but we`ll see on that.

Hydrogen cars really are the way to go. The hydrogen cars out there right now have a top speed of 90 or more, and the range is good too (like 400 miles I think).

The simple fact of the matter is that we will NOT see any different fuel source for the next 5 to 10 years, thanks to slow moving government and an already existing infrastructure.

^ Thanks for the correction on the efficiency part. I was hoping i remembered the figure correctly but good call.

The only point of fuel cells, is to create a supply chain that will bring in revenue. They need to sell you something! An electric car charged by solar energy is the only way to go. Keep in mind, that all other power sources (besides nuclear) are indirect forms of solar power. Wind, fossil fuel, even fuel cells are just ways of storing the energy that came from the sun. Logic says "go directly to the source".

Logan has a point. Car makers wont sell full hydrogen cars untill they are forced to. Otherwise it wont be money efficient and they will lose $$$.

Anyway, After all the hybrid cars pollutes more than hummer H3 (example a Toyota hybrid is more polluting for the environement then h3 because the contents of their battery are much mad then CO2)

if you can get electricity from solar panels, then you would naturally use batteries to store it in the car, and not hydrogen cells. Why convert it to another form and have to deal with the inefficiencies of conversion.

^^ the whole point is you can supplement some of your gas requirements with electricity. i think this is only plausible if the car has a plug in battery rack.

also, hydrogen isnt so much an energy source as it is a storage medium for electricity. kinda like a battery.
