no amount of $5 mini bottles of wines could make such a sight ok for me.

I`ve actually been on a plane where that`s happened. Asked the flight attendant and she said that it is merely a method of cooling off the engine, and the covers will go back on before we land.

Sadly... that engine *can* operate without those covers on. It just freaks out the passengers slightly.

^In that case, I`d do it on purpose just to see the faces on the passengers.

This picture has been posted in galleries tons of times... and it never gets funny, neither scary, so stop posting it!
Does a car not go if the hood pops open and the engine is in the clear?

freaking ae... this would require a faster landing, but it wouldn`t provoke any danger of crashing, not in clear weather.

It freaked me out when we were landing, the back opened up to a parashute shape.

JonGuzman, that`s a different thing. When engines on some planes open up, as you describe, like a parachute, it`s in fact called thrust reversal, a method of braking by redirecting the engine`s thrust.
