^^^ Marijuana is illegal because it`s a dangerous gateway drug whose side effects include relaxed muscles and increased appetite. We need the government to protect us from making our own decisions, and to provide us with safer legal alternatives to cure epidemics of "restless leg syndrome" with minimal side effects that include nausea, upset stomach, diarrhea, migraines, and possible coronary heart failure.

oh yea...and if you use marijuana, the terrorists win. so the next time you`re out smoking a cigarette while enjoying a basket of french fries and a venti triple shot cafe latte, do the patriotic thing and remind someone of the dangers of marijuana.

Marijauna is NOT a gateway drug, seriously. Cigarettes, Alcohol and caffeine are gateway drugs. I mean they are all legal and as far as I remember, Alcohol and Tobacco (by the physical damage they do to a body) can classified to be as deadly as any narcotic . . . hmmm actually a visit to Dictionary.com tells me that they classify Alcohol as a narcotic, whoo.

Oh yeah and the government regulates the influx of weed into this country, so yes in a sense the terrorists win. The kind that fight secret wars and set up corrupt corporate sponsored dictators in other countries (i.e America putting Saddam Hussein in power in the seventies or eighties . . . I can`t recall.)

Marijuana is illegal because of BS (and yes, racist) `facts` espoused in `public awareness` campaigns in the 1940s and 50s ("Little Jimmy murdered his family because he got high"). Since then, it`s remained illegal because of insufficient pressure to change it (unlike, say, alcohol when it was banned; alcohol always has been a largely accepted cultural norm, marijuana has not).

The war on drugs has also become a large economic force for government agencies, due to laws that allow the DEA to seize property and goods belonging to those who are caught with illegal substances.

As to being a gateway drug, it`s true that a large, large majority of those who use harder drugs, have also used marijuana. That`s misleading though; the number of marijuana users who move on to harder drugs is very, very small.

What Phi states is only part of the story. The illegality of pot has nothing to do with it being a "dangerous" drug and those claiming so are only repeating the "reefer madness" mantra which they have been brainwashed with.

Nay, we can largely thank lobbying by the DuPont Corporation which, back in the day, held the patent on making paper from wood pulp. Entrepeneurs found a better way to make paper from hemp fibers...and DuPont couldn`t allow that to happen. It was during this campaign that the name "marijuana" was coined so that the general public would not realize it was the useful hemp plant which was being made illegal. As part of their campaign, DuPont played the race card by pointing to the recreational use of hemp by Hispanics in the southwest.

And that is how pot came to be illegal in the USA. It had nothing to do with it being perceived as a dangerous drug...and studies prove that it is less dangerous than heavy tobacco use and the abuse of alcohol. (For some inexplicable reason, pot users do not have an increased risk of lung cancer...but they do risk other lung problems.)

Few drugs do more harm to families than alcohol....and tobacco kills 400,000 Americans every year. It`s ironic that such deadly and dangerous drugs are the legal ones. (Though, of course, moderate alcohol use has many benefits.)

when talking about "Gateway" drugs..I think people get skewed in their thinking.A gateway drug is considered a stepping stone on the drug use ladder.I understand the principle.However i dont get the reasoning.Now if you want to elevated your high while using less drugs,then that is acceptable,as far as theory is concerned.But I am wondering,what other drug has the same "High" effect of Weed?Say i start using Speed.Ok it gets old,I want more bang for my buck.I move to Coke.It has similar effects of speed,just a little more bang.Again,what would be a step up of meth,crack,heroine,barbituates etc.I have tried these comparisons again and again.And the only viable up from Weed to me is Hashish.But then again it is an organic substance.And yes i know most all drugs have an organic base,but im talking in its finished form after the refining process.Weed goes through less of a refining process of say cigarettes.And it doesnt have all the chemical additives.So the whole Gateway theory is BS in my Opinion.Its a scapegoat.And to me i think alcohol makes one way more lethargic,non-responsive and aggresive than Weed.I have absolutey no use for chemically induced drugs.Read statistical reports on weed,as to deaths related to(minus bad drug deals),O.D.`s,birth defects(compared to cigarettes),traffic incidents,violent acts while using,etc;
When compared to other legal or illegal drugs,Weed seems to be the least harmful and least likely to make you cause harm.

Weed is good i grow i use and i like for years
it is not comparable to booze, booze is way more addictive, and booze is acctualy harmfull.
Pretty weird noone ever heard of health benefits of marihuana use, and do not mean smoking although it has a good effect on the body to, and no i am not talking about tar in the lungs.
