in 5-10 years when gasoline cars are finally almost all gone these will all be worth nothing except maybe antique value.

yeah.... because according to most movies WAAAAYYYY in the past, we`d all have flying cars or fully solar powered cars by the new millenium... or if you prefer one of the seemingly more often used years.... 2010-ish. But no.... we`re going to go from using gasoline for the last how many dozens of years.... to every car using something OTHER than gasoline... in 5-10 years. Yeah.... just like how well that whole E-85 Ethanol corn-based fuel was supposed to be the "next big thing", with most new cars advertising it.... but there aren`t really that many stations that HAVE E-85 Ethanol filling pumps.... or at least not in PA. Hell... think there`s like ONE in PA. Or like the whole Hydrogen Fuel Cell stuff... which has been talked about a lot, but not entirely that much has been done about it.

You want to know when we`ll see an end to gasoline... or a much lesser dependance on it? When the US get`s much less strict standards when it comes to cars. Take the new cars made by Smart.... the Smart ForTwo. get`s roughly 40mpg with an 8 gallon tank. think it`s got like.... a 1L, 3-cylinder engine. Not too shabby in gas mileage, right? How about if i told you that i heard that they actually make a diesel version (think it`s also turbocharged) that get`s roughly 80mpg. Think THAT will ever see the light of the USA? i highly freakin DOUBT IT!

@ElementalDragon
Have you heard of the Xprize? Everyones making all of these extremely efficient cars that must go into production 2010. The majority of them are electric cars as well. There are about 100 contenders and the cars must get equivalent of at least 100mpg. Just google it before you vote me down.

i never voted you down. i don`t vote people`s comments up or down.

And thinking that in 5-10 years there won`t really be any gas cars on the road is being seriously naive. You really think that in 2010, when "all of these extremely efficient cars" are SUPPOSED to go into production.... that everyone is going to be like "OOH, i MUST HAVE ONE!" and rush to car dealerships to buy one? no. Just like how you rarely see Hybrid`s around, even though the idea seemed quite good at first.

And in case you hadn`t noticed.... it`s only different teams that are participating in the Progressive Automotive X Prize program. no car manufacturers appear to be listed so far.... or none that are familiar to me. Seems more like the whole idea is for them to create something that could be used in cars. doesn`t mean it WILL be used in most or all cars.... and it doesn`t mean that in 2010, the market will be flooded with cars that get 100mpg+. 2009 and 2010 are just the years that the cars will be raced/tested to see whether they meet performance standards, and strict emissions standards. Which that last little bit right there, to me, is saying that the US.... probably won`t see them remotely soon.

^The Air car will be in mass production without middlemen dealership though but still if you look for it you`ll get one easily in 2010. Instead of american`s buying these bigass 15mpg trucks they should be looking around for something better. Air car comes in two versions so far. One that gets 136mpg for 5,000-7,000$ and another that gets 106mpg for $17,8000. Does not completely get rid of gas but sure the hell makes a difference.
