well said. And it is sad how the kid was trying to get the teacher fired. I had a black teacher call me "boy" and tried to get tough with me, because it seemed like it was an allegory to the slave days when whites treated them like that.

The word 'nigger' when used by whites generally is a hateful term. I know plenty of black people that don't get offended at all when I jokingly say nigga. So not all black people freak out when they hear the word, but it is usually a hateful term so they do have a right to. Alot of black people would understand if you're not a racist, but calling them niggers is a bad way to show them you're not. If I were black and I didn't know a white person well, but they called me a nigger, I would not be on good terms with that person. However if they were a friend and I knew they didn't hate blacks, I wouldn't care. So I do disagree with black people who freak out over the mear mention of the word with out care to its useage or context, but its not a word whites have the right to use unless used wisely.

And the whole double standard issue in my opinion is crap. I mean black people can call each other niggers and whites can't, but why does that upset most of you? After their grandparents endured years of segregation and hatred and all they really ask for is one word and a television channel, I'd say that's more than fair. So if your white stop bitching that you don't get to say nigger.

Yes, there are black racists, and I hate them as much as I hate white racists. True that some blacks may segregate themselves by thinking white people are all racist, but not all of them.

Alright so in regards to the video, I don't think this teacher is a racist...just a moron. I don't know cause I wasn't there, but I think the kid may have overreacted getting on the news and all. But of course the teacher could just be a dick and they wanted an excuse to get him fired.

Colty, you are missing the point. We realize nigger is a hateful, derogatory term. But the fact that that derogatory term is embraced by black entertainers these days speaks volumes about the state of the African-American race. I think the term should not be used at all. I can't understand why any group of people would refer to themselves as anything close to the word "nigger" (unless they said "negroid). Would Chinese Americans call each other "chink"? No, they have more pride than that. Black people need better role models, the thing is that they ignore any person that speaks of reason, like BIll Cosby.

Regardless of whether or not white people or anyone should use the word "nigg*r" or "nigga" it is totally inappropriate for a teacher to do so. Teachers are professionals are held to a higher standard of conduct at work. Unless a teacher is speaking about the word in a historical or literary sense in front of an appropriate audience there is no way he or she should say it.
Teachers not only teach students academics but teach them civility and social grace. Teachers are role models. If the teacher is too stupid to know this then at the very least he needs additional training.

Just some dumbass high schooler kid didn't want to behave. The teacher is under presure to control his class, that's pretty hard considering all the dumb kids these days. so accidently he slipped happens to us all, some time. Maybe if the back kids stopped using the word all the time as they do, it would not have been in prof.'s vocabulary either.

So in my opinion the whole thing is blown out of proportion.
