Boomerang In Space

During his free time on the International Space Station, Japanese astronaut Takao Doi, 53, “threw a boomerang and saw it come back,” an official at the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency said. The newspaper Mainichi Shimbun reported the astronaut, who threw the boomerang at the request of Yasuhiro Togai, a world boomerang champion, said he was “very surprised and moved to see it flew the same way as it does on Earth.”

It can be easily explained by the fact that Asian ppl don`t have souls. Thus the boomerang comes back. We can clearly see in the slow mo the lack of soul in this "man".

It works because a Boomerang works on air resistance, not gravity. And hopefully thats what the cabin is filled with.... although since he has no soul... Does he need to breath?

why does someone not open the air lock,, i mean come on ppl he got no where to go, little guy looks like he wants to stretch his legs. why does h e need need a boomerang. he should be throwing the olypic torch around or a defenceless tibetan child around

His obviously infused the boomerang with his soul.

I would be impressed if they did it outside the craft, but this is kid stuff.

as long as you have air molocules to create lift of course its going to work. The only difference is the object doesn`t need as much vertical lift to keep it in the air so you just throw it more sideways than you would on earth to take into the account of zero gravity. Also i`d like to point out this wasn`t technically thrown in space...space has no air and a boomerang wouldn`t work. “very surprised and moved to see it flew the same way as it does on Earth.” UMMMM yea...I wouldn`t go as far as sayig the SAME way...or even beig surprised. Gravity is a major factor on airborne objects and if you gets back and throws the same boomerang he will see it takes a harder throw to create enough lift to combat gravity as well as sideways lift to return back to him. The boomerang as stated b4 would fly more sideways as on earth it would fly more flat. It didn`t eve take me a space mission to figure all that out.

Fuzzyman123: Yes it is, in fact it`s even better than the "proper ones" you`re thinking of. The one in the video has an extra arm which helps create an almost perfect gyroscopic effect. The older designs had to have two end/arms since they are made from a single piece of wood, and wood never curves like the modern ones does. Gluing on an extra arm somehow wouldn`t work since the force of the impact would simply shatter what ever is holding the thing together.

air resistance? lift? It didn`t appear to me that bernoulli`s principle was a big factor here. It just seemed like boomerangs operate by momentum mostly.

But I could be way off. Anyway, this is what happens when you don`t give a japanese his porn. He`s clearly hurtin`.

^^^ yeah your way off...

Thelawgiver is right, it works on air, each side is slanted, so it spins in that motion, sense hes in an envoritment that has air, it will still work. It will also be eaiser because their is no gravity to pull it down.

its basic physics

edit:
p0g0, your a dumbass, it has nothing to do with momentum, if you toss a boomerang in a vacume, its not gunna fuckin work...and momentum is basicly mass x velocity(for linear momentum), so in space, where theres no weight, you cant have momentum.....

Boomerangs return because of momentum, not air resistance, idiots.
