The great part ( according to Bill Gates) is that human beings will eventually create a computer than can out compute the collective human race and theoretically may compute on atoms breaking any complex codes.

The U.S. government has now seriously considered research into Quantum computing and we`ll likely see new advancements into said technology in the decades to come. However, quantum computing may lead to rudamentary consciousness since subatomic particles have "consciousness" theoretically.

It may even see humans as a threat to life and seek to exterminate us for the sake of all life on earth. In it`s mind we may be nothing less than a huge error/ imbalance in an otherwise elegant equation.

Computer Nerd Virgins beware.

^One of the things I`ve noticed is that the less a person knows about how computers work, the more likely they are to present doomsday scenarios due to the machine`s machinations (heh).

Trust me, if the human race is wiped out by something other then simply natural phenomena, it`ll be due to a human deciding to end humanity, rather then a machine `developing consciousness` and deciding to. The human might program a machine to eradicate the world (it might even be due to human error; such as almost occurred during the cold war, when the Kremlin lost contact with a military installation, which in turn nearly followed protocol and launched nukes against the US), but it`s still very much a human causing the end to occur (in the same way that it isn`t the machine`s fault that it launched a missile when a human pushed the button).

^ You really aren`t Mr. Current Affairs are you Phi? However I respect your ignorance and lack of education on the advancements of A.I. not to mention poor excuse for computer knowledge. (ahem-douche)

Dario Floriano of the Lab of Intelligents Sytems at Swiss federal Inst. of Tech created self replicating robots with programmed "genes." They were placed in a room where there was a "Food source" (energy) and "poison" (energy Drainer) as they "evolved" by the 50th generation, some learned to cheat and lie informing others of "food" that was "poison," however, there were always Hero robots that would sacrifice themselves to help others.

I`m sure a quantum computer can`t achieve consciousness since it will only compute on ATOMS, maybe top physicists like Michio Kaku and Steven Weinberg are dumber than the almighty self proclaimed computer expert "Spikedhumor Phi" but I strongly doubt it.

Seriously, Look up Quantum computing and the above article, it`s a great example of A.I. consciousness in effect.

Also Phi,... shoot yourself.
