Haedong Gumdo

Korean art of the sword. Very closely related to the Japanese Iaido. Some practitioners doing some cutting exercises using tatami omote. Hope you enjoy.

is that the same stuff they use in demostrations of the katana with japanese martial artists, cos they seem to cut through it alot cleaners, more easily and they cut pieces in half which are no longer attached

THEY ARE NOT the same. Japanese, the REAL samurai people, use ones that are wet which makes it harder to cut and give more human body like feeling to the act. These fake ones are clearly not moistened, u can see splintered things just spreading out after being cut (this doesn`t happen with japanese ones that are tied very securely and have been sufficiently moistened).
Fakes imitate at best and can never be the master
In addition, korean `katana` shit are not as good as Japanese either.... and maybe that is why many sword experts put Japanese, NOT korean, swords as the most fearsome close range weapon

^I don`t see anything wrong with this. No one said they were trying to be samurai. They have their own sword techniques, just like a lot of cultures do. Maybe you should get off your high horse and just accept that there is more to swordplay than Iaido, and the way of the samurai. History is riddled with people learning a cultures fighting style and improoving apon it. I`m not saying that`s what`s happening here, just saying that it happens. JuJitsu is a perfect example.

Some sweet moves there. Very stylish and I`m guessing impressive with the ladies. But I`ll definately try remember some if I ever get attacked by a stationary pole of hay. You never know what, where and when with self-defense, especially if LSD is involved.

Great vid.

not really... I have a real katana (had, i`ve broken it after 4 years). Those `targets` or carpets as people said here are actualy rolls of straws. Very easy to cut no matter the streght / speed used. Me and my friends actualy had fun with it throwing 2L coke bottles full of water at the katana holder, that was MAD fun and cutted throught like butter. If you guys want a affordable and nice katana, I suggest to get a Paul Chen one (they are mostly retailed at 400$ +-) It`s greatly quality, light and hell sharp, even my 3000$ hi quality knifes can`t compare to it`s sharpness.

Only problem, katanas require a lot of attention to be able to keep it with no rust and in good condition. Planning to buy a new katana for fun and for home defense. Robbers wont know what hit them :)

^yeah the robbers will prolly have a field day when they enter a house with a gun and find some nerd who has been watching too much Inuyasha try to defend his home with a samuri sword. Your best chance is if they fall over dead from laughing too much.

Yeah vote me down you delusional nerds.

^^lol, I got a paul chen a few months back. They do seem to be good quality. Have you tried the silicon spring steel ones from Cheness? I want to pick up one of the Bujinkan Oniyuri ones.

LOL, Led. That`s what the shotgun and my bow is for

Nope, I only bought 1 katana, broken it this winter

(since it was already rusted, I decided to make an igloo this winter, apparently Ive cutted all the way throught the snow to make my huge snow block but I accidentaly hitted the road, the blade broke in 2 since it was a bit chipped and a bit of rust).

I think I buy the same thing that I had : Paul chen Pratical katana plus. Or ill go at a higher quality, powder carbon steel, but they cost at least 1000$. But this time, I wont use it for fun lol. Just to show off and home defense ;)

BTW Led Zeppelin, in a house, I would glady prefer a katana than a gun. "unlimited ammo", narrow coridors and lots of places to hide and with the element of surprise, they dont stand a chance.

It`s not about what culture copied what culture, cuz if we go back in time far enough, everything was copied/developed from the egyptians, messopotamian, chinese, etc.
