Great Moments in Gods creation! The Avian Flu!

That`s right it`s just like the common flu but drug and vaccine resistant! God saw how his favored creation, humans, had cunningly figured out how not to get sick by the flu, and was NOT PLEASED. So he went about making a new version of said virus that would kill his beloved children so much better. YAY! And then to ad a little something extra he made it so it can jump from birds to humans so that EVERYONE can easilly share in the wonder that is his creation. ( angels sing )

Give it a plus rating. We don`t want this BS hiding in the shadows and growing like mold, where it might spread like a bad disease. Well, any more than it already has.

Public exposure quickly shows this stuff* up for the cult brainwashing material that it is. It can`t withstand public scrutiny. When consumed within the faith, its purpose is to deepen the bonds of shared freakish alienation within the CULT.

Just look how Scientology is doing now that ANONYMOUS is shining the light. Not good for them any more.

The only immunization we can give to potential victims is a healthy dose of ridicule. They learn that the stuff* is rediculous, and they see other cult victims being laughed at or pitied. This could otherwise be called a "dose of reality". Strongly recommended.

You might argue that the material requires our ridicule to have proper bond forming power, so that the more we make fun of it, the more potent it is. I think that`s true only up to a certain minimal point, at least for the vast mojority of people. There will always be a few extreme nutjobs who go for even the most totally crazy stuff. We still need to make the less outrageous stuff become more commonly recognized as way too weird for sane public consumption.

I think slightly different about this, though. Creationism is an example of religion being hijacked by power hungry demagogues manipulating the uneducated. Christianity, Islam, Judaism etc. deserve better than this.

I feel sorry for the manipulated religious, and wish they could behold the wonder of nature more completely than they do now, and I feel sorry for their children, who will probably never feel the thrill for learning and understanding nature I felt as a child.

Agreed, it is primarily what you say. And, as a result, it`s CULT BRAINWASHING MATERIAL. It`s the material they use for manipulation.

Pick an irrelevant issue that`s (a) something you can`t physically demonstrate in real time in under 5 minutes; and (b) something you can construe as being at odds with the bible; and (c) something that`s already been innocently misunderstood by plenty of Christians in the past.

Now take that issue, distort the hell out of it, and drive it like a wedge with a sledgehammer between your victims. Sprinkle in government money and huge publicity.

I`m as evangelical atheist as I am gay. In both cases, knowledge is half the battle overcoming misunderstanding, and centuries of persecution.

But I don`t think attacking religion head-on is useful. Adversity girds the believers, much like I feel it would be very difficult for you and me to turn religious just by talking to some Christian.

The most useful step (in my own humble opinion, granted), is to separate this "religion" talk from "evolution". So many intelligent religious people are confused by this issue. Evolution doesn`t threaten faith, and religious shouldn`t be scared into thinking so. "Chemistry", "Medicine", "Evolution" are all compatible with religion.

The religious right understand that scaring the faithful into seeing otherwise only strengthens the cause for religious solidarity (and thus power). To rationally de-couple these issues are step 1. Until aliens arrive with entirely different religions, atheism will simply be another faith on earth; I`m doubtful other religions will simply disappear just because Atheism is experiencing an Evangelical Revival.
