From the words of Dr. Ian Malcomb (Jeff Goldblum for those who are unfamiliar) -

"If there is one thing the history of evolution has taught us it`s that life will not be contained. Life breaks free, expands to new territory, and crashes through barriers, painfully, maybe even dangerously... but, uh... well there it is."

Something I`ve always thought was,
Oxygen is the abundent gas on our planet,
so why can`t life begin out of a different gas on different circumstances in a diff planet

This implies we are alone how?

Edit to myself: Ahh. ARE we alone. I misread. Still an intriguing video nonetheless.

Why do people always think that water and oxygen are nessesery for life to exist. Maybe life on other planets is based on something else, maybe they live deep underground or some shit like that.

^ large water masses (oceans) take large amounts of energy to heat up or cool down. A stable temperature as not to hot or cold is a good temperature for life to develop. Water just happens to be liquid b/t 32 to 100 F. (you cant really develop life in ice... and if too hot, h2o molecules wont exist. As for oxygen... well on earth its actually derived from plants. Co2 is a much more stable mol. and can also be a factor for life, (as plants developed before us) however there is biochemistry that can possibly still be undiscovered ...yet we tend to use the standard of "earth life" as its the only thing we`ve got to compare with.

Oxygen is not necessarily a pre-requisite for life. Deep sea species exist that process sulfur based molecules. Yeast processes sugar to form CO2 and alcohol through anaerobic-respiration it also occurs in your muscles when you start feeling the `burn` while exercising.

However water is essential as it is the molecule that allows the chemical reactions of all life to occur through.

ok, I`m not a biochemist but if I understand it correctly most organisms that don`t require oxygen are very simplistic. Thats why when we look for other "intelligent" or at least complicated life we tend to think of oxygen because as far as we`ve seen on our planet oxygen produces the most complex organisms. Maybe theres some alien running around breathing methane but to our knowledge there isn`t.
PS if anyone finds that guy tell him he can come to earth because we have so much flatulence here its starting to kill our planet. :P
