Sir David Attenborough: The Truth About ...

The legendary broadcaster and naturalist Sir David Attenborough was long unsure about the causes of the observed climate warming. In his documentary, The Truth About Climate Change, he sheds doubt and explains what convinced him.

we fucked the earth? highly doubt it, The earth has its own course of actions, Why do u think they changed the name Global warming to Climate change? Because they know they fucked up and trying to say that they meant it was climate change we are messing up, that right there to smart people shows that they idiots "Al gore exactly" are idiots. i dont understand how they can say that the climate change is bad "Summer, winter, spring, fall" ALL CLimate changes fucking retards. Now explain why we just recently broke a record for temp high from 50-60 years ago? why was it hot that long ago if we are just now showing the results of our actions? Another thing is why the fuck did it just snow here? in fucking April, but go ahead, keep believing in "Going Green" And wasting your money on stupid shit

I hate to shoot down such a prestigious man, but there is no existing model capable of accurately predicting climate change.
No, do not pass go, do not collect £200, it does not exist.

How about you compare global temperature with solar activity? What`s that Lassie? It`s a near enough perfect fit? Panic and bad news sells and creates profit.

the people who believe climate change doesn`t exist just blindly believe shows like `the great global warming swindle`, and believe it all on face value just because a man in a white coat says it `so it MUST be true!`. (even though there the same guys who defended the cigarette companies, & now the oil companies)

how anyone can disagree with information like this is just insane!

the statistics are just too off-the-charts to be considered either normal, natural or a freak occurance & people who go around saying that isn`t true are dangerously mislead themselves & encourage others to join their warped view of reality.

to say that there is not a 100% accurate method for determining these weather conditions that are occuring world-wide is uneducated & unscientific at best.

& to suggest that the method for gathering this information is somehow wrong is throwing the baby out with the bath-water, it`s pretty much like stating that if the information isn`t 100% accurate `all the time` that its findings are irrelevant simply due to our unwellingness to recognize uncomfortable truths.

even DNA tests are not 100%. (and if you think the weather can be think again!).

stop misrepresenting to facts and knitpicking abit subtleties and start looking at the current data instead of the data from the 1800`s.

Can you say you`re any better for believing shows like this? There`s scientific evidence to support claims that it was caused by man, claims that it is caused by solar activity, and claims that it doesn`t exist at all.

I`m not denying that our climate is changing, I`m saying that the more convincing is in solar activity, as opposed to CO2 levels, which doesn`t fit the climate`s trend as perfectly as it`s often made out to. And again, there really is no model to predict climate change.

I don`t doubt that we havent helped any AT ALL. However, this graph was only 200 years. 200 years is NOTHING to a planet that has had life on it for MILLIONS of years.

And what about the coal burning that went on during the Industrial revolution, judging by that info the thermometer should have popped its top.

While I am VERY big on reducing our waste and not poluting and generally not making such a mess of things. I do not think that we have been singularly destroying the planet and its eco system. Yes we have made a dent in it. But not something that we can`t recover from if we just do the basics.
Don`t forget, a big volcano erupting sends out MUCH more polutants that we ever do.

In the grand scheme of things we are nothing much, but we should still do what we can.

Just something to think about

trikky,

The coal burning that went on during the Industrial Revolution was localized to the several key cities that were experiencing the Industrial Revolution. It led to global industrialization, which we are still experiencing. In the late 20th century developing nations around the world began using fossil fuels on a massive scale. The impact from the actual Industrial Revolution would have been very small by comparison. You have to think of this globally, and scientifically, not just from the standpoint of Western History. It is generally agreed upon that industrialization is the most profound change in human behaviour, and impact, since the development of agriculture.

And the volcano argument is a bit like saying "Well, everybody does it." Volcanoes pollute badly, and alter climate for sure, but volcanoes don`t have the option of altering their behaviour, and we do.

There is some bad science out there, funded by PACs representing wealthy people who benefit from the status quo, energy-wise, that attempts to undermine arguments that our role in this warming trend is larger and the threat more imminent than we thought, but if you follow the money trail, you can perceive the intention.

Look into it in authoritative places, and I can almost guarantee you`ll find that the majority of scientists agree that we could well be in trouble. Scientists haven`t always been right throughout history, and mistakes have been made, but then again, I am typing this into a computer, instead of scrawling it onto a rock :)

That graph is only temperature change for the last 150 years. There are many factors that can produce a large climate change, either briefly, or on a large scale over millions of years.

Just as one example, our solar system not only circles the Milky Way, but it goes through up and down cycles horizontally through the ring of the Milky Way. In the center of its cycle is the highest concentration of matter (stars, planets, etc.), and every so million years our solar system passes through this denser part of space. And it has been shown that this cycle coincides fairly accurately with the major climate changes throughout history that have caused all the planet`s mass extinctions. Maybe a coincidence, maybe not.

I`m not saying people aren`t helping the earth`s atmosphere heat up, but this graph proves nothing. It is not uncommon for the climate to change for lots of reasons, in short or long spans of time.

I don`t know, maybe global warming is an issue we should worry about, but if we`re thinking about saving our planet and the life on it, it doesn`t need our help. It`s a badass, it`s seen much, much worse.
If we`re thinking about saving our species, we have much bigger problems. We need to put global warming on hold and focus on fixing our heads.

Since none of the people that comment on this site are well educated scientists, and the only real thing you know about climate change is what you hear from others/tv/news/documentarys ect.. You really don`t know anything. On either way, we are or we aren`t affecting it.

But our simple massive presence on this planet. Doing unnatural things on a massive scale over the entire globe every day, all day. Has bound to have some sort of repercussions somewhere. If its global warming or not. It`s just common sense.

^How is what we`re doing unnatural when nature made us to be smart enough to form industrial societies? I think life that arises on any planet and has the opportunity to evolve for billions of years will likely come to a point where technology is achieved, and possibly even to the point of transcending our four-dimensional prison, once it is understood how to manipulate space-time, etc.
Yes, we`re probably doing irreversible harm to our ecosystem, but would you call plagues unnatural? Earthquakes? Meteors? Not trying to justify or condemn our actions, just philosophizing.
