This guy is just such an asshole. You get to the point were his rants are just so anal you want to walk up to him and bitch slap him. Does he have nothing better to do than go about making the same video over and over and over and over again?

PS... dumb ass should actually look up the fact that Jesus was a real man since they have an actual roman census that proves it. Thats why this guy is such a putz.

The above commenters are typical. Feeling uptight because an atheist rants about Christians wishing he were to burn in hell. Acting as though Christians, and Muslims, etc... don not post videos, blogs, articles, TV shows, and movies about their narrow viewpoints. Why would atheist have any less of a right or ability to post what they think about a subject? Why must the only view of a religion be a positive one so as not to offend anyone? I personally don`t get angry at people who express that they don`t believe in scientific theories such as evolution. I get angry when their reasons for non belief isn`t in observed data or logic but because of a 1300 year old book about 2000 year old events. Don`t stand and look at something right in front of you and claim it doesn`t exist because they didn`t see it 1300 years ago.

I admit though when I see that retarded banana clip about how it`s proof of God or something I think that guy`s an idiot and an ass too. So it`s not something atheists are immune to. No one likes to be disagreed with I guess. Though responding by saying the guy is an ass and not directly shooting down his/her ideas with logic and fact is just as retarded.

PS - Yeah so I looked up the Roman Census bit. Sorry buddy it doesn`t exist. Even if the name Jesus does show up on one so what? Someone named Jesus existed. In south central LA right now like 10,000 Jesus` live. What`s that prove aside from a large Hispanic population?

Ok there was a census in 2000. In 1999 Nicholas Cage gave birth to a son who he named Kal`el after the Krypton name of Superman. So in 2000 years some future ancestor of us turns up a Superman DVD. He figures out how to read it and watches what he THINKS is a documentary. But the other people around him are like: No one can fly now, how were they able to fly back then? Then they look for other evidence that superman existed. They find a 2000 census and learn that in New Orleans a Kal`el Cage existed. PROOF of superman! Right?

I do like the fact that Atheists are finally getting the balls to contribute to religious conversations.

^^^^ mostafa, ^^^ tagnizkur, clearly freedom of speech threatens the radical religious establishment, where control of information and thinking is paramount.

BUT, there are many more moderate religious who would (generally) agree with what Pat Condell has to say. The media face of religion today is fundamentalist (whether Christian or Muslim), though many more religious believe the Bible/Qu`ran is a collection of philosophical parables (and not facts). Let`s not forget that. And fundamentalist fervor is clearly being stirred dramatically since the enemy it faces is so monumental and seemingly insurmountable - one might guess this is truly the beginning of fundamentalist religion`s last stand. As science makes its slow and methodical steps towards understanding life/universe/psychology/sociology, fundamentalism makes less and less sense (although it`s likely to retain some adherents amongst the mentally ill, and lowest IQ percentiles).

Understanding fundamentalists in this context is key to quelling this irrationalism. And, selfishly, it gives me (and hopefully other atheists - or agnostic or moderate religious) hope that rationalism is destined to prevail.

Here is what I love about people in general. Two individuals generalized my statements. Then they take me and lump me in with a vast group of thinkers that almost in every way differ on opinion and doctrine. There are people labled Christians that are indeed NUT JOBS! Case and point, the Westboro Church.

Then you both further attempt to demoralize and insult me. Fascinating, all of this under a general assumption. What did you say NYC? "fundamentalism makes less and less sense (although it`s likely to retain some adherents amongst the mentally ill, and lowest IQ percentiles)"

So you assume I am mentally ill or in the lower IQ percentiles? Again, generalizing and quite frank I find it a tad in the immature side since you all so greatly judge on my simple few lined video comment.

Do you throw me in another group, is this what you were thinking? "Since Tagnizkur doesn`t like a bloated self righteous moron like Pat Condell then he must be a Christian nut!"

Sirs and Ladies, I made my statement based on the fact that I DO NOT LIKE his opinions. Its the same rehashed crap all the time. I saw one atheist video that was indeed intelligent because he brought arguments, this guy just brings crap after crap of rehashed crap about his personal thoughts. He needs to make intelligent arguments, not bash videos. THEY ARE OLD!

^^ tagnizkur:

I did not mean to insult you directly.

I`m glad you are thinking through issues independently (as I am trying to do). As such, I doubt you are a fundamentalist religious. And, to be clear, it`s only fundamentalist christians/muslims/etc. that I (sadly) believe are either lower IQ`s, mentally ill, or brainwashed. You failed to mention brainwashed, and in retrospect I should have added uneducated as well - since religion is keeping knowledge out of so many classrooms around the world. I cannot, as a thinking human being, rationalize any other reasons why people choose to ignore science (and the thinking faculties any "god" would have provided to us) and believe selectively in manipulated ancient texts.

Guys, he`s mad because his IQ was questioned? He felt ok saying the video blog guy was a "dumb ass" and a "putz" because he didn`t refer to a "roman census" that doesn`t actually prove anything. Sure there are some Christian sites that act like it`s solid proof of God`s only child on earth. But it`s only proof that Jesus is a name they gave children 2000 years ago. So all of a sudden other people are immature. Laugh Out Loud.

Roman Census that proves it? Census of Quirinus?

Quote :The Gospel of Luke appears to date the birth of Jesus during this census, while the Gospel of Matthew places the birth at least a decade earlier. Bible scholars have traditionally attempted to reconcile these accounts; most modern scholars regard this as an error by the author of the Luke Gospel.
This passage has long been considered problematic by Biblical scholars, since it appears to place the birth of Jesus around the time of the census in 6 A.D, whereas the Gospel of Matthew indicates a birth during or just after the reign of Herod the Great, who died in 4 B.C., ten years earlier.
In addition, no other sources mention a world-wide (or Roman-wide) census which would cover the population as a whole; those of Augustus covered Roman citizens only;[15] and although people could be asked to return to their homes to be registered,[16] it was not the practice in Roman censuses to require people to return to their ancestral homes.
Most modern scholars explain the disparity as an error on the part of the author of the Gospel, concluding that he was more concerned with creating a symbolic narrative than a historical account,[18] and was either unaware of, or indifferent to,[19] the chronological difficulty. Many also suggest that the Gospel of Matthew account is invented.
Luke`s statement that Joseph and Mary had to travel to Bethlehem `because he was descended from the house and family of David` has often been called into question; James Dunn wrote: "the idea of a census requiring individuals to move to the native town of long dead ancestors is hard to credit"

The only "religion" that I am against is Scientology. I am not immature, and will not go out of my way making fun of other people`s religions.

I myself am a Christian (Nazarene) and do not understand how Religion is "keeping knowledge out of the classrooms" the only educational area that religious people (Christians in this instance) is the THEORY of Evolution, not evolution. That is the only thing that might be rejected, but that is the person`s personal preference.

And how are people being brainwashed again? Sorry if I seem angry, but I hate how people claim about "Christianity brainwashes people!!" Because I fail to see that, and you`re not being forced at all. (unless you`re talking about scientology in which case I whole-heartidly agree with you)

How are Religious people mental retarded when there are hundreds that teach in Universities, but keep their opinions to theirselves for fear of being fired.

Also, just to let you know, the theory of evolution is not perfect, which is how many schools teach it. There are clear flaws, so don`t be calling people who believe in (ID) stupid when it is still a theory. If it`s all about being open minded, why arn`t teachers able to present both sides in a classroom, and make it up to the students? It won`t hurt them.

Again ... sorry to seem angry, lets just agree to disagree.

Ok, im done with my rant now. Just wanted to throw some things out on the table. Thumb me up or down, I don`t really care.

thanks

Karvastor:

A few points:

1.) Religion doesn`t keep knowledge out of classrooms. Irrational, delusional, insecure religious people keep it out of classrooms by insisting that evolution not be taught, or that it must be taught side by side with creationism.

2.) Not just Christianity brainwashes people. Most of the world`s religions do. If you believe that people actually lived for several hundred years, you are equally as brainwashed and unable to think independently and rationally as a Muslim who actually believes he`ll wake up from death greeted by 72 virgins (let alone after blowing himself up)

3.) Theories can be facts. There`s a theory of gravity, and I don`t see any of us floating around.

4.) Not all religious people are mentally retarded. Numbers has nothing to do with it. Most of the `civilized` world thought the Earth was flat at one time; does that mean they were right strictly by the numbers?

5.) Why does something have to be perfect to be true? If that were the case, you wouldn`t be a Christian because I shouldn`t have to tell you that the Bible is full of *hundreds* of errors and contradictions. And evidence to support the fact of evolution will always be more comprehensive and conclusive than any religious text.

Finally, you`re right about the whole thing of personal preference. I prefer not to have my children taught fairy tales in schools. I prefer people to think logically and embrace the fact that we`re in the 21st century with enough knowledge to understand the world outside of the fables and legends of the ancients. If you prefer otherwise, that`s your business, but please, don`t make it mine.

Fact: There is *not one reliable,* extra-biblical source for the existence of the "Jesus of Nazareth" mentioned in the Gospels. There are some passages attributed to Josephus which do not hold up under any scrutiny and are obvious forgeries as well as some lettres by Tacitus which talk more about what Christians believe *about* Jesus than about any historical figure. And in any case, the lettres were written years after the events in the NT supposedly occurred.

That`s it.

No "census". No other documentation from that time or place from Jews, Greeks, Romans etc. despite the fact that we have the most arcane trivia from 1st century Palestinian backwaters. None of it mentions what would have been the biggest news of the day. Had Pilate tried Jesus as is written in the Bible, it would have been the equivalent of Osama Bin Laden being arrested and tried by Dick Cheney. Yet we have nothing but some forgeries, Tacitus, and the Bible...which of course is a book of fairy tales.

Sure there were folks named Jesus. And there were many Jewish messianic figures running around then, a couple even named Jesus. Some of them even did a few things similar to the Bible`s "Jesus", but no single one of them did all those things and, like the trial by Pilate, many of the most important events don`t seem to have happened at all.

The "Jesus" of the Bible is a 1st century Palestinian comic book hero, crafted like Frankenstein`s monster from bits of other Near-Eastern myths and mixed with half-truths from the lives of the many messianic pretenders of the day.

Not that you can`t live your life according to his example. You can do that with Batman, too. Each is as "real", as real as we make them but not a real person.
