MMO in production since 2005, very good progress using algorithmic progressive programming to generate and recall terrain correctly without needing to store the actual data. Action-based combat and story-lines may give rise to a good game.

Now use CryEngine for the up close rendering, and you have a winning combo. That was fucking mindblowingly good. But it needs ground level detail too.

The algorithms used are more similar to the way the brain stores information. While this method is not always the most accurate it allows an almost exponential increase in the amount of data stored.
