Making of Crysis

This is the main video that was included in the bonus dvd that came with the game. i tried to upload it here a few days ago but the video would get stretched out and it would look weird so i converted it so it would stay this way.

Crysis was unbelievable, and not in a plot sort of way. The technological advancements Crytek made are just out of this world, graphics physics level and gameplay.
Literally, if you have any experience in computing of any kind, you can appreciate how amazing the game is on a computing level.

As a game, purely from a gameplay standpoint, it`s not the most amazing one i`ve played, but it ranks. But from the perspective of someone who knows how games work on almost all levels, you just can`t compare anything to it.

^Agreed. Remember Siggraph in the 1980`s? Crysis is like SF come true.

Now I just wish this level of tech would be turned also to games with non-violent scenarios. There has got to be some good $$$ to be made at something other than fight games. I have been a FPS guy from the first DOOM, and I love it, but there has to be more too.

Imagine the CryEngine used for a firefighting game. Or earthquake or flood relief. Or how about a MMORG, but a treasure hunt, with huge maps, clues, and real prizes drawn from entrance fees. How about open access tours of interesting places, especially ones where people aren`t normally allowed, that would be educational and entertaining. You could have everything real time, people, machines, vehicles, etc., plus a master key and master security clearance.

CryEngine is the best photo-real simulation engine to date, and probably the first with enough features, power, and support to tip the balance from `close` to `good enough` on the perceptual realism scale for most scenarios. It`s hard to say exactly how well it would scale to MMORG or crowds-of-NPC`s, but it looks to have the stuff, even if the hardware speeds are still catching up. IE, it`s more about performance scaling vs. available horsepower, rather than capability scaling vs. existing technologies. That`s pretty much a first for this type of software, and it`s a winning proposition given Moore`s law.

I want Half-Life 3
I can only imagine what it would be like
Crysis is graphically amazing, but the gameplay was average.

^ Very true

It was sad because they put so much work into details that didn`t even matter (ie. Jets taking on and off the aircraft carrier). And on the whole it wasn`t the "Open World" game they made it out to be. Farcry had more options.

Then there were the vehicle sections that were like torture (anyone else feel like suicide during that VTOL mission?). If they couldn`t get flying controls right, they should have just put you in as a passenger or gunner and made it a rail shooter. It was probably the most unnecessary level in the game.

Oh and the AI was pretty terrible, Halo 1 enemies looked like geniuses in comparison.

The Alien ship level kind of made up for all of that, it was the first really different and interesting experience I`ve had in an FPS.

crysis was fun, one of the few games i actually went out and bought (more for multiplayer, which sucks ass btw cause of hackers) it didnt live up to all the expectations people wanted it to though, its more of an adventure game then fps in my mind

whatever, the end left it open for crysis 2 which will look even better and hopefully have better gameplay. maybe by then vista wont suck so much and i can play dx10, but i wont get my hopes up

The eye-candy is cool, but it ain`t worth nuthin` if you don`t have the gameplay.
There are old games that are still fun `cause they got the gameplay right.
Your imagination takes care of a lot when you`re totally immersed in the action.
