Everything about this movies is just awsome. It manages merge two things very well. Its entartaining and at the same time has deeper meaning to it. All the great fight scences, the story, and the philosophy behind it.

I love this movie and it ranks among my favorites. Though I just watched `Dark City` for the first time last night and couldn`t help but think how many things not only the first movie, but the whole trilogy borrowed from that awesome film. I know many scenes in the `The Matrix` were filmed on the same set as `Dark City` but many of the concepts, special effects, and even a bit of bullet-time (with a knife) and a scene similar to the Neo vs. Smith aerial battle in Revolutions can be seen at the end of `Dark City`, and it of course was released a year before the first Matrix film.

The Matrix was a far more fleshed-out mythology though, so I`m not accusing it of being a total rip-off, since they pulled inspiration from a lot of sources. I`m just saying it`s obvious `Dark City` was one of the stronger influences on the Wachowskis when they were making these films. Just thought I would tip my hat to this movie`s predecessor.[/nerdy movie buff rambling]

The Matrix is always 5/5.

one of my favorites. i just saw the anime version of the Toward the Terra manga from the 80`s, i wonder if it had any influence on the W brothers. humans live as sheep, mostly unaware of a computer government that allow genetically engineered humans to survive in a post apocalyptic world. evolved humans with superhuman powers begin to be born and try to deconstruct the system; one boy that the previous leader finds and selects to be the new leader accomplishes their dreams, and the ending is bittersweet just like in the matrix
