Over 1.5 million poor Chinese have been illegally evicted, often by brute force to make way for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Denial. The most powerful weapon a government has to combat outside investigations concerning abused citizens.

Seriously, fuck China. I know some Chinese people here who have lived in China, and they`re like "Why can`t you focus on the good China does?" Brain washed worse then yanks.

How the fuck did China get the Olympics? Toronto was just begging for them. Fuck why not just have them in Riyadh or Tehran.

This seems more substantive to watch, vs. the vids of people extinguishing the olympic flame.

Yes, what the government doing is wrong, but taking care of 1.3 billion people is not an easy task. Compared to the United States of America, with a population of 300 million, the US government still has problems providing health care, stable economic and other important services to its citizens. Even today, thousands of people are being evicted out of their homes, California. In addition, homeless people are always “cleaned up” within any US cities or within any other country before a big public event, like Super Bow, Olympics, world cup. Yes China has some major flaws but which country doesn’t, how about some of those solders acting like jackass in Iraq. It will be many more years before China can develop civil rights acceptable to the Western World.

sometimes i think that the only reason the oic wants the olympics in Beijing is to stir up international commotion, and have them boycotted or whatever...what other excuse could there be?

surely not due to their upstanding international reputation...ahem.

I saw lots angry comments toward the Chinese government and even Chinese people. I really wonder how yelling "fuck China" can help.
If you guys are so worry about the human rights of the Chinese people, instead of disrupting the Olympics, why can`t you do something that actually helps?
Help to fund the education system (although ur money WILL be misused). Or maybe go to China as a visitor teacher (It pays really well).

If you wonder why Chinese people don`t overthrow the government. It`s because lots of Chinese are happy. Average wages increased 4 times in the past 20 years. Also, the last time we overthrew our government, we ended up fighting a civil war for 20 years. Most of us just want our country gradually fix its problems with time. We really don`t want to be cheap labours for the rest of the world again.

I agree with NYCJockCub. Protest, anti-protest, anti-anti-protest...what the hell? The hostility being built up is not healthy for ANYONE in this world. People need to be rational and think before they decide to jump on the bandwagon (that applies to both the anti-China side and the pro-China side).

The situation now is extremly bad. Most Chinese people are now more against the western world because they perceive it as a patriotic thing. Many people here (oh by the way, I`m a Chinese, if you can`t tell) hate the government for this or that reason but when so many westerners started singing "Free Tibet" without even learning anything about Tibet or China and the mainstream media distorted the facts and information for their own agenda, it`s no longer a fight for justice, truth or human rights, it`s become a fight for pride and honour.
And that doesn`t help or solve anything.

China, unlike the west, doesn`t respond well to force. If you force policies onto China, then they become more stubborn. It`s been like this in the past and it will continue to be like this. China won`t change because other people tell it to change, it would only change if they realize the benefit of change. Right now Chinese government doesn`t see the value of enforcing human rights laws.

Actually guys, it is not really exclusively China.
I live in Vancouver. As you all may know, we have the "honor" of hosting the 2010 olympics. The same things are happening here (albeit a more subdued manner, as we are a more democratic country, not to mention we do not have anywhere near the population China does). Homelessness has increased rapidly since 2005 (has doubled in 2006, and increasing even now), and the government doesn`t seem to want to do anything. I myself am Chinese, and i hate what the world is becoming. Since when did human rights become the price to pay for celebrating human performance?
