While interesting, it`s also depressing to see such a great man in such physical discomfort and disrepair.

I only hope history will remember him for his brilliance and sacrifice.

Stephen Hawking is like something out of some sci-fi novel, he`s like the disabled professor with a brilliant mind, he`s one of those people which if you see you would never forget, and we also associate microsoft`s voice program with him. He would always be remembered and not only for his achievements but also for his artistic presence.

TED and Hawking all at once.

Pretty spectacular.

When you hear someone that brilliant discussing what`s important, what`s probable, and what`s gone before it provides a pretty sobering perspective. We spend a whole lot of time worrying about a bunch of things that, in the scheme of things discussed in his talk, are really inconsequential.

But the more our governments seek to define who we can be with, what we can do, and what we should spend our time debating and pursuing the more it looks like the only way we`re going to get into space and continue the species is through efforts like X-Prize, and private ventures.

It`d be nice if we spent more time worrying about how to keep this good thing we`ve got here going. Because as Hawking says - life didn`t take long to take hold here - but it`s a possibility that the reason we can`t find other life is because it doesn`t take life long to wipe itself out either.

Or, something.

A brilliant man, great topic. Everyone should consider reading some of his works, his books really get you thinking. One great thing about Mr. Hawking is that he`s so intelligent and yet unlike most self absorbed egotistical scientists out there he speaks on a level that allows everyone to understand. I read A Brief History of Time back in 1997 when I was only 12 years old and got a lot from it.

I read a brief history in time ...but I didn`t get much aid sauce, basically it was to much for my mind at 17.

agreed I feel saddened by hawking`s disease

I really want to see Stephen Hawking explain satellite videos of UFOs doing crazy ass maneuvers just outside of our atmosphere. Those videos do exist and they are of real NASA footage. The camera even moves and follows the object in some of them. How about that new footage released by the Mexican military? How old is this vid? Maybe he hasn`t seen any of the good UFO videos...but if you really don`t think that there is already a fight for space going on in the galaxy let alone the entire universe, you`ve probably got another thing coming.
The Earth has just about hit it`s limit with vacancy. Just imagine what`s going on in the whole universe...Species that have been around for FAR longer than us...Trillions and trillions upon hundreds of trillions of intelligent species just growing and spreading, seeking more to consume and more area for them to reside. All of these species will be fighting for these inhabitable planets. Also relying on what each individual species considers inhabitable. So any intelligent species which relies on specific items will seek those items. If those items just so happen to exist on Earth...well then this species just might become our biggest enemy. I`m completely convinced of extra terrestrial life. Just look how easy the Earth kept springing back up with life every time it became uninhabitable. There`s always some organisms that seem to survive to repopulate the entire planet effortlessly...it`s just how competitive organisms are.

...so this is the guy behind those Anonymous videos. I kidddd, Hawking is the most brilliant man alive, the stuff he theorizes is decades ahead of its time and he has a sense of humor to boot.

^Coddoc is a minuscule carbon-based life-form that at best has a lifespan of 75 years barring medical complications. He will die, and probably like me, will be forgotten soon enough.

Stephen Hawking will attain cultural/scientific immortality as one of the greatest thinkers and scientists of our era. At best, I could say I lived during a time of a scientific legend. I didn`t get to see Einstein, but I got to see Stephen Hawking. I share a respect that will be shared by many future generations, I can claim that much.

EDIT: heh, won`t live -forever- per se in a literal way. fix`t

Brian Greene: the elegant universe. A book and theory based on a mathematical equation developed by Stephan hawking. Very good read, as well as an astonishing idea as to where we come from.

I use to work in a restaurant in The Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, London and would occationally see him and his carer there after a show. I remember that he had, for me, an almost saintly presence. If you think im just being sensational, then find out for yourself:)
