That painting bought his life, and the life of his Grandparents from the Nazi`s. That was worth far more than the 20 million it is worth today. Suck it up, life goes on, those are the decisions people have to make at the time of war, and his grandmother made it, thus saving his life. Also good point Ninjzz, this is exactly what is happening to the Palestinians today, and I don`t see him linking those two together at all. A Palestinians valuables may never have as great a value as this painting, but their lives surely do, just as his did as a child during the Nazi regime...

^^^Shifty people that use, "um" infront of a comment, is a sure of a sign of a moron. Read the comment first, the painting was in exchange for their lives, yes no money was exchanged, but that`s because that was not the deal. Grandparents` took the deal for their lives in exchange for painting, thus they were allowed to live, along with their Grandson. And never use, "um" again, you fuckin` moron...

So if someone holds your life in their hands and says give me your worldly possessions and I won`t keep you in the country and put your whole family in a death camp - that`s not theft?

How is that any different from a guy coming up to you w/ a gun and saying give me your wallet or I`ll kill you? The gun scenario is more direct, but it is the same thing.

I love how some people don`t understand the concept of theft. Btw. the argument of Palestine is void in this case because there is no evidence that connects this man to Israel`s actions against the Palestinians. Both groups of people had been severely violated so lets work to get everyone they property back.

They were given a clear choice: Die or give us this valuable peace of Cloth with oil smuges on it.

At 4:02 "family was compensated for their loss by the German State in 1958". 13 000$ then is 200-400k today* Even if they had to share thats a decent compensation.

What a load of bullshit. Yes it was wrong for the Nazis to take the painting, but they gave it up for their lives. I would too. "It`s a part of my life" blah, blah. It`s a 20 million dollar part of your life. I can`t believe people would use the holocaust to make a quick buck in court.

I know that it maybe so that the is the legitimate owner of the painting, but the guy is an old man!

He should enjoy the life that he has left.

What if after he dies he doesn`t end up getting the painting... he would have wasted the time he had left...

What if he dies after he gets the painting? The painting in the end has no value to a dead person. He should leave the legalities to his children who has a future, his children who have time to waste...

That`s just my opinion... but I think he shouldn`t worry any longer about material things and just be glad that the painting is safe and is being admired by many people.

If I were him, the only thing I would fight for is a tribute to his past on the painting gallery.

"This painting that once hung at a living room wall, moved from owner to owner over 60 years and survived a multitude of history, now resides and rests in peace at the safe hands of this Spanish Museum"

I would be honoured. ^__^

But of course it is his choice in the end to live how he wants to with the last of his life. I just hope that he wins before he passes away, that way there was meaning to his struggles in the end.
