Also symbolic considering that people are now being told to use energy saving bulbs over these. Also, the new energy saving ones contain mercury and you pratically need to call in a HASMAT team if you break one.

More mercury is generated from the coal power used to light the incandescent bulbs. And _that_ mercury gets pumped into the air, rather than going into a landfill with the CFL bulbs.
