CERN Large Hadron Collider

In May CERN will be operating their Large Hadron Collider. There are some concerns about the creation of black holes and "strangelets" during these experiments. The goal of the experiments is to create a picture of the universe as it was just after the Big Bang. Some people think it will destroy the earth.

what I don`t get is how some of the greatest minds in the world think it`s completely safe to reproduce part of the big bang.

Its probably because they know the science behind it, and know all the reasonable risks. I can`t imagine how many people must have said its terribly unsafe to have multiple explosions every second when the gas engine was invented.

I personally think that the speculation of a catastrophe is spurious. It seems to be based on a lot of theoretical quantam mechanics. For me, I think nothing will happen but some confusing images of spirals created during the process, and if it did destroy the earth, that would be fine with me too honestly.

No Seriously though.
Human`s may think they understand something. The Science, The Mechanics, The Physics....etc.
But all in all. Understanding is not CONTROLLING SOMETHING!
Could we possibly Control a black hole were it made?
No Fucking way in the Universe. And if they want to get a feeling on how the big bang went, they are well on their way.

Like the Nuclear radiation from it`s blast, We have no way to control the Outcome. Be it the fall out of the Explosion.

I Could consider myself on the fence for this one. I love science and Understand the Curiosity of it all.
But when more than just a continent is at stake just for the name of science, I consider it a Inexcusable Genocide.

Black hole + Earth = things being sucked past us at the speed (Or even faster) of light!

/\ yup there is no 100% that it will work correctly or there is no side effects or damage or everything will work. A blackhole is not a car engine something goes wrong millions billions people can die take this kind of stuff to space or the moon far away from life.

We`ve created black holes before for experiments.
They`re too small and last only a fraction of a second which means they MAY have a chance to gobble up one or two atoms before they disappear.
There`s really no danger. I don`t think we have the power to completely swallow up earth... YET!

If you actually take the time to understand what they are experimenting with, you would realize they are not mad scientists hidden deep beneath the surface, laughing hysterically at their earth destroying, black hole machine. <- That`s only partly true :) The fear of this project reeks of anti-science ignorance that has been creeping into societies mind.
