Regardless of the poor conditions (a square ring?), that was a good fight. Obviously akiyama isn`t that much in a stand-up fight (he recovered well enough, but had no moments where he was controlling the fight), he did fantastically on the floor, even with manhoef lifting him entirely off the ground and slamming him.

You guys must of seen the fight with sakuraba.
If you haven`t,Akiyama covered his body with some type of oil.Sakuraba was pissed cause he couldn`t get a good grip and ended up losing the fight.After careful investigation Akiyama was banned from the ring for a few month`s or something.

That`s the most... - well - I sent the link to this fight to one of my mates saying that it demonstrates how muay thai savages stuff like Karate and Thai Kwon Do. Because I was that certain that the black fighter was going to win.

The stand up striking was just brutal - maybe the black fighter expended more energy attempting the quick KO than he should have - so he couldn`t counter the slow grapple to hyperextension.

If I`d paid for a ticket to the fight - I know I`d be happier to see a win via a good technical submission, than by a mince meat KO. The technical side of martial arts are what make them so watchable compared to very effective but narrowly focused boxing we were raised on in the west.
