X-COM: UFO Defense (originally released under the title UFO: Enemy Unknown in Europe and Australia) is a video game created by Julian Gollop and published by MicroProse Software. It is the first game in the X-COM series. Great game!

This clip doesnt do X-com any justice at all, I renember thowing spare ammo clips to teammates pinned down behind cover and blasting buildings to rubble in frantic firefights.

X-com has everything, It`s a strategic masterpiece even two decades later. Research, base building, recruit and name your soldiers - the ones that survived long enough became hardened heroes, air to air dogfights, enemy base raids, base defence, territory wars, the list goes on forever. Some people are put off by it being a turn based game - but this is what chess would be like if you added lasers, explosives, aliens and the pawns became a little more skillful with every mission they suvived.

Oops, wrote an essay. Yeah X-com`s that good, go play it, it`s freeware/abandonware now.

loved this game for the playstation, you can train your soldiers for psy attacks. i could never do that on PC version.

^^ you could, but you had to capture a live Grey/Psionic to `interrogate` before you could research psy equipment/training.

Oh man, i`m tempted to say that this vid was cheating, but then again that`d just be because i didn`t think of doing it this way. I went through Cydonia the hard way, took me 3 attempts :S

Amazing game, and X-Com: Terror From the Deep was even better, pity apocolypse wasn`t up to much...

wooo this is one of the best games IMO. other awesome games from my childhood: star control II, commander keen, duke nukem 2D, ect. last summer i played x-com again and i cheated on cydonia :p i gave everyone fusion blasters and blew every frickin alien up with them. kablooieeee!!! i played xcom 2 and xcom apocalypse, i even bought the xcom 4 (interceptors) but i lost the cd. it seemed a bit weird though cause u were in space and had to travel around. it was hard to control, i didn`t know what the storyline was cause i lost the cd pretty early, maybe i go look for it online

Until I muster the money to buy a new laptop, I still have my amd k6-2 compaq and use it to play this game, jagged alliance and fallout 2 on trips =O

This, along with star control 2, and master of orion, were all totally awesome games. Too bad I never got into them because I was off playing mario brothers or something :(. Dune 2 I did play though, because that didn`t require abundant patience.

i downloaded x-com apocalypse couple of days ago...didnt work for me on vista..so i tried a DOS emulator and still no go..just wont install
