In 1949 or some year near that that Orwell published 1984 which first brought up the subjects that they speak of in this movie, media control and wiretapping. So really it was around 50 years "late".

It`s all natural, people are just naturally power hungry and getting information is gaining control which is getting power then once in a while, someone gets too much power and a revolution occurs, then it`s back to gaining power for someone else.
