Boys Beware

Note about homosexuality: before DSM-IV (Diagnostics and Statistical Manual version 4) homosexuality was a mental illness, regardless of current status of the individual. *The DSM-IV is used by Clinicians, Psychiatrists, and Psychologists. This is an anti-homosexual propaganda from the 50's shown in an educational setting. Consider changing the word "homosexual" to "rapist" or "pedophile" in the video, and you will have a more modern version of an educational video about personal safety. How times change.

And regarding the description, I`d say that "rapist" or "child molestor" are already assumed in this propaganda. A more apropos example for today might be "terrorist" or "pornography". We also see these same tactics used back then against communists and socialists, and perpetually in the "War on Drugs" (remember Reefer Madness? That crap is as old as my grandparents but is just as bad as lies they churn out today).

The targets change, but the fear tactics remain the same.

^You`re correct, rapist, child molester, and pedophile are already assumed in this propaganda. What I was trying to get across was that in this film, homosexuality means rapist, child molester, pedophile, etc.

However in our modern society, most educational films will use all of those words, except homosexuality. This implies a change in our political correctness where homosexuality is no longer assumed or synonymous with rapist, child molester, or pedophile. Thus marking a change in ideology. In our times, homosexuals are not innately depicted as those derogatory terms. Back then, all homosexuals are rapists, and rapists can be homosexuals. Now, rapists can be homosexuals, but not all homosexuals are rapists.

The take-home message was that all of the information presented in that video is relevant if you replace the target suspect with the current "evil" person or persons in our current times. This means that fifty years from now, if for some reason Canadians became the mainstream target of discrimination, the information of how to be careful around those people will still apply.

I think this video shows that there`s a lot of f`d up men out there that want to touch little boys and girls. Good thing they warn kids when they`re young so that they don`t fall into a trap set up by some molester. I don`t think there`s anything to defend here, unless you agree with nambla`s views, lol.

I`m pretty sure if you`re an old man and like touching little boys, you just might happen to be gay. Just a thought, lol. I see a lot of people are so quick to defend when it comes to gays because it`s the new thing to do, but here`s some news for you, a lot of messed up stuff does happen in the gay community and yes, men pick up little boys for sex, there`s a group set up in a city which i won`t mention of former boy prostitutes that tell their story, so don`t give me that b.s. that it doesn`t happen or isn`t significant, because it happens, a LOT.

(Think you better take a good look in the mirror, there, on that one EntropY...and while you`re at it, you might want to note how the reflection looking back at you bears a striking resemblance to the religious nuts you try to distance yourself from. p.s. for some others like MikeD and Agent: Yes, it should come as no surprise that there are folks here like you who amazingly agree with cold-war era hate-mongering propaganda. yeah, if it was titled "beware of the pedophile" it would have been more accurate & modern but you have to understand changing social mores. 40 years ago their was little understanding of the differance between a pedophile and a homesexual.

The people who are upset about others acting "too gay" are typically the ones who complain about folks acting "too Black", or "too Mexican". They might even be the kind of prudes who don`t even like it when people are "too sexual" at all, homo or hetero. They may inveigh against "indecency" like nudity, bitch about public displays of affection, and chastise women they feel are "under-dressed" as "slutty" - perhaps even arguing that rape victims "deserved it" for dressing scantily.

See, this is how bigotry works; there is always some imagined ideal, some norm or idea of what it means to be "normal" that, not coincidentally, always privileges the dominant class or caste in society, and works to keep minorities or the targets of discrimination down.

In our society, a lot of this prejudice has to do with sexuality, and most of it comes from thousands of years of religious taboos against sex.

The roots of those taboos come from the fact that, thousands of years ago, the early Jews (who gave rise to later Christianity and Islam) were surrounded by people (both within and outside of early Judaism) who used sex in worship. Those competing practises were demonised along with the competing Jewish and non-Jewish sects. This is also where we get many of our taboos against things like snakes (an early competing religious symbol) and the idea of "The Devil" as horned and horny (from the early worship of bulls and goats as symbols of sexuality/sensuality/fecundity).

The association of `pleasure` and `sin` was also a coup in that, if you can get people to confuse pleasure as "sin", while lionising pain as "virtue" (think about the heroic sacrifices of Jesus, suffering on the cross, an example to us all..LOL!), you can brainwash people for life; you can guilt-trip folks for jacking off, then make them "atone" by giving to the Church till it hurts. Scientologists are nothing compared to the major religions of the world.

So Bless You! Every time you shake a judgmental finger at a flamer, you`re doing God`s work! Reminds me of the t-shirt:
