Like Phanto said, they are designed to absorb impacts/blasts and keep the occupants alive. They will come apart but the cockpit will stay in one piece, much like modern racing cars.

I read the story behind this one.
A 500lb bomb was detonated under it and all vehicle occupants survived, the driver having broken ribs from the steering wheel.
The heavily armored V shape of the undercarriage deflects the blast to the sides significantly reducing the direct force on the vehicle itself.
