Astronaut Claims Boomerang Works In Spac...

Article Submitted by master911.

In an unprecedented experiment, a Japanese astronaut has thrown a boomerang in space and confirmed it flies back much like on Earth.

Astronaut Takao Doi "threw a boomerang and saw it come back" during his free time on March 18 at the International Space Station, a spokeswoman at the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency said.

Doi threw the boomerang after a request from compatriot Yasuhiro Togai, a world boomerang champion.

"I was very surprised and moved to see that it flew the same way it does on Earth," the Mainichi Shimbun daily quoted the 53-year-old astronaut as telling his wife in a chat from space.

The space agency said a videotape of the experiment would likely be released later.

Mr Doi travelled on US shuttle Endeavour on the March 11 blast-off and successfully delivered the first piece of a Japanese laboratory to the International Space Station.

it also means that the boomerang is the most advanced space weapon. Able to destroy planets.

Just to clarify - They did this INSIDE their module, which has an atmosphere almost exactly like earth`s. There`s no way that a boomerang would work in a vacuum.

So what does this mean? Not a whole lot. Boomerangs work because, when thrown properly, the rotational forces combine with the lift generated by the blades to give it a curved, returning flight pattern. Where there`s air, they`ll work.

Hey was it just me?

Or did the last phrase, in conjunction with the "experiment" phrase, make it sound like the first piece of the laboratory was the Boomerang or the Video???

LOL!
To the Space stations and back to deliver: A boomerang.

Boomerangs, Serious business!

filthyrichboy, you explanation is flawed. Gravity and aerodynamical forces also play a huge role, they are non existant in space.

"The space agency said a videotape of the experiment would likely be released later. "

..after they have time to edit out the guy running back and fourth with the boomerang in his hands.. making is seem as if it had actually happened, in order to receive more funds toward later "experiments" in space.

conspiracy...

Acer...the guy did it on his free time; it was not a sanctioned experiment. Even astonauts get to play once in a while. Wouldn`t you?
