I wonder if there`s going to be a news website for the LHC.

We won`t hear word 1 about it in the mainstream media - it`s got nothing to do with Paris Hilton. But I`d sure like to be able to keep track of what`s going on with it when they fire that bad boy up in may.

Also - the host of that video is Dr. Brian Cox. He works on the CMS at the LHC. When he was doing his studies in the late 80s and early 90s, he was the keyboard player for the band D:Ream - who had the #1 single "Things can only get better". Bizarre to go from pop music to working in particle physics.

Very exciting, I recently read a huge article about this in National Geographic and theres actually going to be 3 separate experiments done to attempt to find the Higgs particle, which is supposed to imbue fundamental particles with mass. Very exciting.

Actually, the reason for this, is because the common cold qualifies as a virus. Virii are marked by their ability to replicate. In replication a virus quickly mutates (evolves.) Thus becoming a different virus. We could easily cure one common cold, or even one case of HIV. Curing one case doesn`t help the rest of the world though.

*edit* why hasnt this made the front page? its hugely interesting. people need their curiousity sparked before may, so we are all on the edge of our seat waiting by then.

Informative, but where`s the acutal experiment footage?

@bunta-fuji I`m here watch real experiment. Not to watch a guy explaining LHC experiment. It`s like watching announcers explaining about Olympic event but not showing the real games. How the fuck did this vid get this high rating?

Mike, they havent had an experiment yet. They`ve been building this for over 20 years. They were supposed to turn it on Nov 26th last year, but the fail some safety tests. Its now turning on for the first time sometime in May.
