I like to believe that supernatural or unknown things, dimensions and states could exist. This, is by no means proof. Any number of things could attribute for the shoe, from her knowing from before hand to someone messing with her and bringing her a red shoe. Nice little story though.

Everyone knows that all hospitals have at least one red shoe on top of their roofs. This is common knowledge.

I agree with neon neophyte, this is not conclusive evidence.

And I agree with the announcer - if we could only find proof that the "body" can live without the "spirit", we might be able to formulate some ideas about the afterlife.

Until then, we have centuries of myths and stories to confuse people`s minds.

Here are a few more stories for you all to chew on. Mind you these are all true.

A woman dies in the ER due to a gun shot wound. When she leaves her body she travels out of the room and down the hall. There she overhears a conversation from two nurses. After being fully brain dead for 5 minutes she is revived by the doctors. The next morning when she wakes up she finds she is being attended to by one of the nurse`s she overheard when she was dead. Needles to say she was able to tell the nurse the entire conversation. Leading to the nurse being incredibly freaked out.

Another story is of a 9 year old boy receiving open heart surgery. During the operation he left his body and was able to read a label on the back of an overhead light which would be completely impossible to read unless you got a latter.

There are many examples of these stories that have been confirmed by the doctors and nurses involved. In my opinion there is no doubt what so ever as to weather consciousness survives physical death.

Thought I heard that when you go to sleep your brain uses a certain chemical that makes your dream, although it`s so intense you only remember the last 10 seconds of your dream. I heard the same chemical floods out, but slowly, so I don`t know what to think...

^Your brain produced DMT, a hallucinogenic. But it does not explain the gaining of specific information that they could not know under normal circumstances.

@ArDragonDream:
Good point.
There needs to be MUCH more research into this phenomenon.
If we knew the base constants of the soul, then we could make a “soul detector” that could be used by medical science for any number of beneficial uses.
But, with every answer, more questions come close on their heels:
Where does the soul come from?
Where does it go after death?

For those so inclined: here is an article about “soul substance”.
A sumary: A doctor measured the weight of the soul after the death of a patient.
Today such research would be deemed unethical and not permitted.

scientist already know what makes out of body experiences, I read in a journal that they isolated the part of the brain that becomes activated and have even given people these experiences at a laboratory.

However, I believe there IS an afterlife, not like the Abrahamic religions way where you go to the pearly gates and your name is in a book.

One thing I enjoy about these stories is that they always happened to "a woman" or "a young child", never Rose Burnhart from Wisconsin or Michael Silverman from Tampa Bay.

You really think medical personal got out of their way to get to the roof immediately when a deranged patient is raving about a red shoe ? =) Ids say it would take days at least, in that time half the hospital would know, especially supers and/or cleaning personal who have access to all the building and can very well pull a joke at some one else`s expense.

im scientifically minded, and the more you look into universal science, the more you understand the need to have an open mind. It`s kind of a paradox in a way. If the spirit existed it wouldn`t be able to proven in a scientifically accurate manner. By its own virtue it doesn`t really exist in our reality therefore cannot have mass or energy (or else it wouldn`t be, like, infinite right?) so you wont be able to detect it by means other than by this anecdotal evidence.

Either that or we can wait for scientology to release a consumer freindly soul sensor 7000 based on their successful e-meter technology.

Remember keep an open mind

Though not related to the afterlife, a father who have terminal brain cancer, and have the cancer cells basically infest all of his brain, thus barely any brain cells left. Somehow, beyond the doctor`s belief, right before he died he awoke and spoke to his wife and hugged his children. Goes to show the possibility that the mind can exist without the body

I believe that these `out of body experiences` are a combination of parallel universes, and the stimulation of the central nervouse system by DMT.

I am an experienced `tripper` and I believe that when you ingenst a hallucinogenic substance it opens your mind up to allow you to see fragments of these parallel universes. DMT is an extremely powerful substance, and your body is perfectly capable of generating enough of this chemical for you to trip on. Not only is it generated during sleep, but a massive amount of it is generated during birth, and death (the two most significant occurances of our lives).

This explanation works for me, although you all may have different theories.

i have read a book about unsolved mysteries a few years ago. there was this one guy who had a heart attack experienced the same thing, but the difference is that he can directly to a place whenever he thinks of going to. like his parents, the doctor who is going to take care of him on er etc. eventually he was revived. bothered and confused about the experience he was found dead on his apartment dead after shooting himself.
