Drinking your own urine really is not recommended. Yes, the majority of it is just water; however the rest can be toxic. If you are already dehydrated, the low level of toxicity in the piss can really do damage to your liver n other organs.

If you have to, usually you want to purify it (even if it`s only slightly). Survivorman has drank his own pee, but only after creating a still by making a hole, pissing in it, then putting a water bottle in the hole and covering it so the sun will evaporate the piss.

This is why I`ve always liked Les over Bear, he seems to have a much higher degree of knowledge of how to survive.

And Nutra - I agree with you 100%. I still really like Man vs. Wild, a very good and informative show.. however Les Stroud aka Survivorman is far superior. Not only because he actually strands himself in the middle of nowhere and really survives.. but as you said he has far more knowledge..

You pee in order to release toxins from your body. If you ingest those toxins, it will take more water than is in the urine to flush those very same toxins from your body. may as well drink salt water (dont drink salt water).

It`s not about knowledge, it`s about the situation.

You have to listen carefully. With how hot it was distilling his own urine would have been a complete waste of time and would only dehydrate him more in the end.

He also said you should drink it right away and only when you are still hydrated. This keeps your fluids inside you much longer.

He just used it to buy himself some time till he found a real fresh water source.
