I`m sure I`ll hear this same story 15 years from now like it`s the first time we heard of this.

So a 200W desk fan can just about provide enough power for a 0.1W LED?

That`s all you got out of this? Stretch one of these across a valley, gorge, or under a bridge and you have a lot more generated power with no man-made input energy. Mother Nature does the work for us.

Im honestly impressed, I thought that was a really smart idea. When he first said, get away from the rotary motion, my mind started reacing and I couldn`t think of possibly how. This is really cool.

It`s pretty impressive when you think about it... imagine stretching a few of these things across the big radio antennas you see on top of skyscrapers or sticking a few in the grille of your car. Lots of possibilities, somebody just has to DO IT instead of running around talking about doing it.

Kudos to this guy.

Who do you think should go and DO THIS? Do you actually think it will work on a large scale, something 200 feet will vibrate up and down and at high frequency? Do you actually see that as physically possible?

On top of that he wasn`t using a slow wind speed which is really what we need to be working on: better methods of capturing the energy from slower wind. Most areas have an average wind speed of 10mph. Not 30mph found directly in front of a fan.

I`m sorry i`m not sold, and I don`t think this will ever go into production.

i would like to see how this works out on a larger scale. even if the skeptics are right, you have to give the guy credit for his creativity. it`s leaps like these, trying new directions, thinking outside the box, that brings advances

It`s all about design really, you don`t to stretch it out like that. You can have many small ones covering a large surface area, like a wind tunnel or a sculpture. Kinda like how the inside of your intestines bunch up to create more surface area to absorb nutrients, you could do the same thing here to create more surface area to absorb wind. Sky is the limit with this sorta invention.

Hey all you wind power enthusiasts, I hate to break your dream but for day to day use energy we need constant power. Like if i plug my computer into the socket i know i`m getting 240v.

Now I don`t know if anyone has noticed but wind comes in gusts so if I was connected to one of those fucking great ugly wind turbines my laptop would be getting 10 000 V one minute and 20 the next, and somehow I get the feeling my laptop wouldn`t like that.

You coul maybe use wind turbines to power street lighting but that`s abouT it.

Nuclear Power FTW

Johnpaulbland, I hate to break your dream but you obviously know nothing about electricity. Electricity never comes directly from its source to your house without being stored, and rarely is it a constant source of energy.
