World War Two - The B-29 Superfortress

Colour footage of the American B-29 Superfortress in the Pacific theatre of operations. "It was the primary aircraft in the U.S. firebombing campaign against Japan in the final months of World War II, and B-29s carried the atomic bombs that destroyed Hiroshima and Nagasaki." Video from http://www.webalice.it/romanoarchives/. (Original music was poor, so I replaced it with "Titans" by Vangelis. Used in the Alexander OST.)

amazing aircraft. If Im not mistaken, wasnt this the first aircraft to be fully pressurized? I read the book "flyboys" by Bradbury some years back and a Japanese woman interviewed said that during the firebombing missions, the sleek silver Superfortresses reflected the red flames from the ground. she described them as looking like flying devils in the eyes of a young girl and she said that "she could almost see the American bomber crews hungrily staring down with drooling grins".

5/5
and good choice of music

Great piece of equipment for its time. I have a picture of myself next to Enolagay taken at the washington war museum.(name of THE b29 who dropped on Hiroshima and or Nagasaki)

What did the US use it for though? Firebombing civilian centers? Sad part of our history right there... Not that the US was the only country to do that in WWII; any country who had an airforce used it to indiscriminitaly bomb civilian centers of population; and some military objectives.

The problem back then, Caramelman, that every man and woman was ready to fight for their country. So, in a way, every person was sorta of a volunteer soldier.

Yeah, it`s not great that they were firebombed and such, but they were also willing to fight. So, what else can you do? Ask nicely with pretty pink pieces of paper shaped as hearts for them to give up?

It`s war. That`s all there is to it.

chopstix... killing old men woman and children taking shelter in their homes in the process?

I know what you mean, there is an objective to accomplish.

but no matter how you slice the pie, I can`t be convinced that a house / coffee shop / shopping centers can be considered targets of military value.

If anything it would just give more will to the opponent to fight back and never give up.

that`s just my opinion though... maybe if I read a little more about history, war and politics would I be able to take a more informed stance on the issue.

But REGARDLESS! @#$#$%^ killing civies.
