I know 4 guys that`ve served 6+ years over there and each one has said the same thing.

"The world shows us as asshole war mongers when we`re really doing more humane shit. It`s the media and fuck heads with a computer editing footage to show us as assholes"

A little paraphrasing, but they all project the same idea.

They`re trying, on an individual level, to show they`re not bad people, but the assholes make it seem that way.

You don`t need to support the war, but for fucks sake, support the people fighting in it. Most of them are there because they think they`re helping others to have a life like they had.

^ They must be the only ones to have done more than 6 years. All British troops get rotated out of Iraq. I assume the same thing happens with other troops. If they ( all 4) have been there for 6+ years they must be special??

The men an women serving there are doing a job for christ sakes how many of you actually honestly fucking believe that those men and women wouldnt trade love to be in your shoes. Sitting behind a screen and complaining about them all the fucking time. Perhaps it would be better that no one applied for the god damn military. Instead they bring back conscription. I bet you wouldn`t be so fucking smug would you.

These people have put them selves forward because most of them have no where else to go they need the money for their families, their schooling or perhaps other reasons. They don`t want to be there just as much as you don`t want them to.

I really do believe that the majority of people serving there are really trying to do good. Its as if the world believes the USA is a bunch of cold hearted killing machines. But the worst of the lot as Micmac said is the fucking media and their portrayal of the war. Of course they are gonna upload every misconduct that goes on their. Do you really believe that a video such as this one would make headlines. Just try and imagine, Man in Iraq has fun with kids. Marine saves mans life. Soldiers help kids learn. Soldiers hand out food and drink. You just don`t see it. I myself have to just chosen to ignore everything that happens in Iraq because whenever the topic comes up I land up fighting with someone, the reason for this is that I`m neither for nor against the war. Because I`m saying I`m for the war means that I`m supporting Bushes oil slippery fingers, but saying I`m against is not fair on the people who have given their lives for it.

So people please try to keep an open mind. There is never never never one side to any story.

^A tour in Iraq for the US Army lasts 15 months. Most recruits head over for a obligatory tour after their AIT training. After serving that tour, depending on your MOS, you have might get an option to be stationed elsewhere for your next tour. There are some people who have been in Iraq for a ridiculously long time, mostly because its their own choice or they chose a heavy combat MOS.

I personally wouldn`t want to stay there for more than one tour. As a medic, the action I usually get is treating dumb asses who shot themselves in the foot on accident. Worst case scenario is getting stuck to a EMT Humvee with a broken Air conditioner. Imagine sitting inside, with desert temperatures hitting 120 degrees, plus your ACU and Kevlar adds an additional 10 degrees due to lack of ventilation. I felt like a Hot Pocket in a microwave.

I`m still impressed by the locals and how they are able to tolerate such temperatures without much technology.
