N.Y. Philharmonic Plays In N.Korea

The New York Philharmonic performs a traditional Korean folk song "Arirang" in North Korea. The performance was done in agreement with the U.S. that North Korea end its nuclear program in exchange for aid and the opportunity to interact with the outside world.

and then the tune came out

being korean, i`ve heard this tune a gazillion times

very nice piece and performed flawlessly...but the poster didn`t report on how the Orchestra insisted on playing the US national anthem at the start of the performance. Bloody arrogant that IMHO, and I ask myself what other country would insist on doing that. Oh well, here`s to the slim chance of peace :)

Arirang is a sad, heart-warming song about a man and a woman who are in love. This song is about a woman watching her beloved walk down the cold road to his work while she waits on the hill.

The reason why I don`t particularly appreciate this piece is because NY Philharmonic skewed this song into a glorious, happy, paradise-like piece. Very well played though.

Yes they did play the American national anthem, but before that they played the North Korean national anthem. Usually this is supposed to represent a common ground for two nationalities to come together.

It is a fact, they played the North Korean anthem prior to the US anthem. The entire event was asked for by the Korean government because the philharmonic was playing in China just prior.

Yes, there were politics involved but this wasn`t big asshead US pushing culture on another country. Music is much more powerful than any bombs or artillery. This is the most promising sort of politics anyone can ask for.
