BBC Horizon - What on Earth is Wrong wit...

Part Two. Recent program from January 2008. Info: "Particle physicist Dr Brian Cox wants to know why the Universe is built the way it is. He believes the answers lie in the force of gravity. But Newton thought gravity was powered by God, and even Einstein failed to completely solve it."

when I was about 12, I "invented" the phrase "everything affects everything", like Einstein. I`ve discussed the numerous dimensions with a physics professor at my university and he said that there might be more than 4 dimensions [4th being depth, 5th being time, the rest I can`t remember] and what we came up was quite interesting. He said that there was no one unique equation, not just one constant to the quantum theory of such a force like gravity. Now this documentary just begs to differ the theory of the Big Bang, and if such a thing can exist in nothingness [this jumps to the realm of philosophy @_@], that is to say that there was `something` before there was even `anything`.
If anything, I hope they find out what really IS stuff in this century and during my lifetime because this discovery will revolutionize the entire planet, not just scientifically, but economically [we could finally master solar power, which is also what the professor and I proposed as the next energy resource]. billion/5 cause `gravity` has never been more interesting since playing ball as a kid ;]

My guess is that anti-matter is in another dimension then matter. So there you go, there is your 5th dimension... since depth is the 3th and time is the 4th.

But if you search spiked for "THE TENTH DIMENSION" you will see something interesting.

I always believed and still do (already when I was about six years old) that I exist in multiple places. Maybe in a mirroring dimension or .. well .. imagine for yourself.

@Wisewabby.. I think you are right about that! But the officer was narrowminded to say it is accurate and mean it.

@Gixxer

That 10th dimension stuff is BS. It`s all theoretical, unprovable, over-complicated and... really, it`s just philosophy disguised as science. I personally think it`s more like a religious belief than true science, and it uses a lot of fancy terms that sound like Scientology jargon. All of it unprovable and untestable.

@Relic: It may be theoretical, but it has a lot of math behind it. Since the math works, then it should definitely be considered a possibility as a description of the universe. It is complicated because, lets face it, the universe is a very large and complex place where most anything (imaginable and unimaginable) can happen. And, it is unprovable only by today`s standards. Maybe as we become more technologically savvy, we will develop clever ways to test String Theory and to directly observe its consequences. String Theory is nothing like scientology because String Theory does not claim to have all the answers. There is still ongoing investigation into what String Theory says about the universe. As opposed to scientology (or any of the other "religions") which claim absolute truth and frown upon further investigation into their validity.

No one ever imagined that we would be able to see what elements make up the sun without ever having ventured there to make a direct measurement. Then, along comes spectroscopy. All I am saying is whether or not you agree with what String Theory has to say or whether you would consider it a valid scientific endeavor, you should not make up your mind absolutely... you may be surprised.
