Ya I was wondering if you blow that up some pieces have to leave that satellite at a pretty high velocity and in space they are going to keep moving at that velocity until they either fall back to earth and burn up, or hit something else in space, which is most likely not good at all. I think they could have come up with a better plan that `well lets just shoot it`

^^^The plan to shoot it was to show other Countries[ie. China], that they were capable of destroying sattelites from the ground. Just as the Space Race in the 60`s was sold as a great adventure to the public, which helped secure billions of dollars worth of funding when in fact it was nothing more than a race to build intercontinental Rockets, that would be aimed at Russia. It`s all smoke and mirrors, and the Generaly Dumb Public[aka GDP], always buys it...

it is funny how they try to pin it on the oh soooo toxic fuel. in the inicial statements, that was the only reason given, while everybody knew they were freaked of someone finding their precious technology... it is amusing that they still pretend that the fuel on board was the reason to shoot it down...

^^ China blew up their satellite at 500 miles up...ours was only 150. Big difference.

The debris from the American satellite is below even low Earth orbit and will reenter the atmosphere in weeks. The debris from the Chinese satellite is going to be up there for years as it slowly drops thru the orbit of the Space Telescope, the ISS, and hundreds of other satellites.

Sure, it`s hypocrisy to criticize the Chinese for conducting an anti-satellite test...but it`s not hypocritical to suggest that the Chinese test was wreckless and irresponsible, if not necessarily a direct threat to people on the ground.

I think there is more behind it than a simple malefunction.
I just cant figure out what, but it all sounds way too clean and easy to me. Also they specially build and designed that rocket, so something is definetly wrong there.
