It was the gradual, incremental, increasing surveillance and violence of a totalitarian regime that got to the point where Nazi Germany was so strong and cancerous, that they had to be firebombed into submission (with countless innocent people paying the price for their government`s misdeeds).

it`s the old "boiled frog" analogy; if you throw a frog into boiling water, it will jump right out. Turn the heat up gradually, however, and it will just sit there and cook.

If this kind of thing is possible in "liberal, hippy-dippy, progressive" Oregon, what do you think is likely in the South? What did we already see in the South during the civil rights era? Remember Waco? Ruby Ridge? Now it`s Iraq.

It hardly matters anymore who the target is. Whoever the target of police/government force is, they obviously deserve it, otherwise they wouldn`t be a target, goes the reasoning.

Complacent and complicit folks will say this is all conspiracy-theory insanity. Make no mistake, though, the real conspiracy nuts and crazy folks are the ones in the government, the ones in uniform. They invent "terrorists" and "criminals" out of every day, work-a-day people (and miss the real terrorists in the process - accidentally or on purpose).

Wake up.

edit for folks like Bonsesteel et al below: Just because you don`t have concentration camps (yet) doesn`t mean oppression is absent; the United States has the largest prison population of any industrialised country, filled in no small measure with people who are "guilty" of non-person drug crimes etc. You have a higher chance of being imprisoned in the US than in any other Western country.

And that`s just imprisonment; the liklihood of being stopped, scrutinised, arrested but released, charged but paroled is also infinitely higher in "The Land of the Free" than anywhere outside of the third-world.

The comparison with Nazi Germany as the only example of fascism is unfortunate; there were/are other fascist dictatorships that are actually more comparable to the US. Franco`s Spain or Fascist Italy are probably closer to the the emerging American disctatorship.

Too, we shouldn`t ignore the fact that American fascism is an entirely new form of totalitarianism, unique to this day and age, but no less savage for those who are criminalised.

^yes I agree dangledorf, there is no comparison, Bush doesnt have a moustache, apart from that there is little difference.

USA is invading foreign countries in an effort to make it a "better place" and tightening local laws to make society "safer", you know the Nazis made the same reasons and thought the same when they invaded a Country or took away civil liberties. Many Westerners fail to see the agressiveness of our own Governments actions because they are not directed at us, just imagine how would you feel if your Country was full of foreign troops blowing the place to bits.

The police state brewing on the horizon… yes because clearly since this 6 year old footage was taken, all the people in the video have been interred in a Nazi-esq. camp.
The comparison to Nazi Germany is nothing short of completely insulting to those who were ACTUALLY persecuted during Hitler’s time in power. To really compare- being videotaped by cops, to millions of people being annihilated- it’s gross.
Propaganda is propaganda is propaganda, no matter which side it is for. Flashing shots of concentration camp footage and Portland cops… Oy.
Grow up, and stop playing chicken little. There are truly frightening and dangerous places in this world that people have to survive in and your complaints insult their reality- get a spine, a grip on reality, and stop being whining pussies.

cops videotape their affairs so in case they are accused of somethin, they have their own documentation to prove that they didnt (or in many cases did do it). Alot of you guys sound like Dale from the cartoon King of the Hill.
