Wow, how did these guys slip through? The oil companies are slacking...

As George Carlin put it: "This country was bought and paid for long ago."

Pretty neat, but I can make it better. Just add 200Watt amp playing a tape of a Ferrari engine!! That would be sweet indeed!

^^well couple it with a solar panel or wind turbine and it is eco-friendly. The problem is those cost so much that you might as well not get the car.

"your still burning coal to make it and run it"

(You`re) right, we should just keep burning gasoline vehicles. since coal may be used to create these cars, lets just say fuck it.../sarcasm

Never mind the fact that it is a fraction of what is needed for drilling, refining and transportation of gasoline before it`s then burned in your vehicle. Don`t even begin to thing about renewable sources of energy, like Dams, wind turbines, and the solar model they are set to release that will actually be energy positive, so you`ll generate more miles in electricity then you`ll use in your daily commute. I better be quite though, I might make some of those conservatives think for more than 5 seconds at a time. We all know how much that hurts them.

^^^TrimeFoo, if they came out right now with a whole line of these vehicles from cars, vans, and Big trucks, and over the next 10 - 15 years the people all converted to them, you would see a disastor of epic proportion. We don`t have enough energy now to keep the lights on in homes. California`s rolling brownouts prove that. If we were to go 100% electric, our system would collapse. Even in Germany where almost every house has a Solar Panel and the country is projected to be 20% free energy in 10 years, they would drop to less than 1% if their cars we`re converted to electric. As far as dams being the answer, maybe you should research the huge Salmon deaths caused by them, or even better, Countries like Mexico drying up, because the US chose to cut off their water supply with the Hover Damn. I hope one day renewable energy will be the standard, but with population growth, and ever more electronic devices, it will be many decades before we can wean ourselves off coal, and Natural Gas[Turbines], etc...Until then we are stuck...

velocity, actually you are wrong. Currently it is true our power grid is heavily over-burdened on summer days, but what you don`t take into account is that on evenings when our power grid is not burdened by lights and air conditioning units we have a glut of power that essentially goes wasted. (Power plants don`t have "batteries" to store power when it`s not used).
When do you think most people will be charging their cars? That`s right, over night while we sleep.
A friend of mine ordered one of these last year, still awaiting her turn on the waiting list.

Velocity the cars run for 200+ miles off of a 3 hour charge. It`s like saying "If they make one more appliance that runs on electricity we`re all going to be fucked." Utterly ridiculous. Also you chose to ignore wind turbines and THE SOLAR MODEL THAT IS ENERGY POSITIVE SO YOU`LL HARDLY EVER NEED TO PLUG IT IN.

^^^3 Hour charge, didn`t you see the transformer used to do this...It`s a big capaciter that displaces large amounts of voltage...If you were to try to charge this car off a normal wall connection it would take 2 days to recharge...Trust me it eats up a lot more power than what you are saying it does...

You`re all focusing on the most boring inconsequential aspects of this car. Where the energy for it comes from in your particular country/state.

What matters - is it`s the incredibly agile Lotus Elise, with an electric engine, with 2 gears. It`s got a flat torque curve. So while it does 0-62mph in about the same time as the petrol elise - it does it all in one gear. Instead of waiting for the engine to hit its peak torque output for your current speed in the right gear - if you floor it at 30, 40, or 15, all in one gear, it`ll nail you back into your seat with acceleration in an instant.

250 mile range is "ok". But I doubt you`d see many Lotus Elise owners doing more than 250 miles in one stint - anyway.

The point is - it`s got all of the awesome things about a Lotus Elise - without the drawback of no torque (due to the Elise`s N/A 1.8-2litre Toyota 4cyl engine).

Forget getting all pissy about how environmentalism offends you as a man - what matters is it`s an even better Lotus Elise. Whether it runs on petrol, coal from power plants, or bald eagle semen, it`s something any red blooded male should want to take for a spin.

A video where those lithium ion batteries ignite gets a 5 from me...

And there are some huge disadvantage of lithium ion batteries as they age without being used at all, and if the inside of the Tesla isn`t cooled like a refrigerator you`ll have half the battery capacity in 2 years. Not to mention you will need to buy a huge transformer like they have because charging at a low voltage will cause irreversible damage to your battery.

you made paypal dude, all you want is money don`t lie. And the energy companies have use cornered, we demand and they supply 1/2 to keep the demands high and the prices higher.

@TriMeFoo
As it stands we can only get a small fraction of our energy needs from dams or solar panels. Most power still comes from oil and coal. AND you have to add the fact that burning it in power plants to generate electricity is a less efficient way to convert the energy to useful work.
You get losses in transmission and power plants have to run at a higher capacity than they think is needed to avoid trips in case of spikes in demand.
NUCLEAR power is probably the only real viable way of having electric cars AND reducing one`s carbon footprint. Too bad people who care (greens) can`t get over the hangup of burying it deep in the earth even if encased in a special glass material to prevent leaks.
